From what I was told was all 4 DI's were replaced. They never said anything about the coils.. which was what I thought it originally was.

I am going to post this here just because.

My local dealer had zero experience with the FR-S. The service advisor is an older dude, who just bought one back in late 2012. First thing I did was talk to the service manager about the car.

I told him, right off the bat I am talking to you now because just in case I have issues I want you to know where I am coming from, the cars I have owned and the way I will bring shit to your attention.

He was cool but you could tell he was like: "here is another know it all asshole."

But after a few months of me talking about the issues with the car, they started to see some of them. Then the service advisor went on his first road trip 700 miles and got the idle dip CEL and had to have it towed.
After they their attitude changed towards me and so did my service experience. But I still don't trust them to do major work. I have priced out every major part, and aside from taillamps and the ECU thats all they have touched.

The point is most dealerships are not run by or for enthusiasts.

What they deal with is mostly the mass market people have no clue but expect the world. So they are jaded. Is it an excuse, nope. But Turbowski who is in my videos constantly sends me shit of the type of filth he has to deal with. At the end of the days, whether you love cars or not after a while of dealing with people and their broken cars you tend to lose you edge.

Here are some pics of the shit he sent me in the past few days.
If we had to deal with the heat, cold, filth and stupidity like this...

I have for a while now. I went back to stock to see how things used to be and the same day I flashed back to stock I got that code.

Don't you think it could be worn/damaged due to the previous tune?
It is pretty common knowledge now that he likes to make it hell lean and let the knock correction deal with it?

Was completely stock when I first started having Any serious issues with my car under the hood. Then I went aftermarket once the dealer just did literally nothing under warranty.. pfft. I've had no issues when using an aftermarket tune.

I could not agree more, every time I go on here to evaluate my future purchase in driving bliss, I get afraid I will buy it push the crap out of it and explode, with no warranty help. I for one will wait till 2014 because I feel the shortcomings will be fixed and I don't plan to mod the car when I buy it, I will wait the warranty out to test the waters on the car. Also the chirping from a friends BR-Z really gets me

I feel like right now we are alone even under warranty. This cars problem has been and will be parts availabllilty and dealer/oem support. The shit Subaru is pulling with Mike is the mentality behind the support structure of most major car companies making cars like this.

In all fairness RX8 and S2000 was the same way.
"Why do second and 3rd grind randomly? " Thats normal.
"Why does the car burn so much oil?" Thats normal.

Eventually I hope we don't get the same answer and its true. But be prepared for it.

Okay so i just read the first 10 pages and got lazy and skimmed through the last 4. And of course i have a couple questions/things id like to know more about.

1. All i keep hearing about is the "firecracker" sound, wich means your injectors done. But is there any audible sounds that occur leading up to the dreaded "4th of july celebration"?

2. I understand that injectors and seals are on nation-wide back order for X amount of months, but as someone asked before what do the injectors and seals cost for someone doing this on their own? I saw someone do the repair work themselves in this thread.

3. Has there been any information on manufacturing periods affected or is it safe to assume this is an ongoing problem all the way up to the current manufacturing date?

4. Based upon reading this thread i am guessing that affected vehicles typicaly are either low milage(under 6000mi) but heavily tracked, or daily driven hard/spirited-ly for 10,000+. Correct?

Finally, i show concern on this becuase last night while going on my typical mountain road joy ride i noticed an audible "pop"(best i could describe it as) from the intake(im guessing) when rev matching downshifts(during innitial throttle on) in the 3000-5000rpm range(free reving, hasnt happened to my knowledge under load yet). it happened randomly and as hard as i tried i could not reproduce on demand. It does not have the distinct "fire cracker" sound but its easily noticable. Ill have to look at the door tag to see what manufacture date is but i've only had the car just under 2 months(10 days will be 2 months) and put just over 4200miles (aggressive daily driver/spirited driving) on it.

Does this sound like an early sign of an injector seal in the early stages of letting go?

Yes. The dealer probably won't touch it till it throws a rod so I agree we need a good FAQ or video.

As far as build dates I know both of CsgMike's engines were late summer last year and mine as well. So July/August. What is your build date?

The other thing to consider is if the issue is a head machining/tolerance problem, it may make more sense to let it go and total the engine rather than replacing O-rings ever 5k-20k miles. I don't think there have been any '13 build dates with the problem ?

Yea, i got that impression from this thread that the dealer wont touch it. Im not too upset about it, i hate letting other people work on my cars especaily the people at the dealer i bought it from since they already screwed up so much with the paperwork.

Just checked this morning when i got in to go to work, build date is 11/12.

Letting it blow up would be so much more appealing to me if it wasnt my only car. So untill i buy a second car this things gotta stay somewhat running. But if i cant get injectors, and dealer wont touch it ill gladly run this engine into the ground for the greater cause of getting a nation wide recall.

I am lucky to have a very dependable second car, your build date is probably the latest I've seen. Since we haven't gotten any official word from Toyota I suspect they have or will be fixing the issue with MY2014 and just eat the warranty cost on us early adopters. So before we blow up our engines we need to know what we call in the industry the "clean point", its the first VIN with fixed cylinder heads and/or tune.
