Is it me or does the intake looks like it's made out of plastic!?!
Sadly plastic intake manifolds are common these days (well more common). Good for some reasons (thermal) bad for becoming brittle over time and cracking

From a longevity perspective, how long do you think that will last, especially with prolong exposure to heat? This is my first time seeing this, is this common with Boxer engines?

btw, what is that vertical box behind the radiator?

Ah, that would be a good thing if it's like the EJ.

RRNold: I've replaced a few on Ford 4.6L mod motors and they tend to last 5-10 years before cracking and spewing coolant everywhere.

Agreed on the filter. I love that location!

The box is a resonator box (left of the airbox and in front of the tube/alt).
Yup

^One thing still don't know is AC...

In that VLN pic, AC unit is missing... & from the Geneva BRZ engine layout it's one serpentine belt, so if you take AC off... well you get my point.

seems like the boxy looking guard between the intake pipe and oil filter is hiding it. in the frankfurt BRZ engine pics, you can see what looks like a clutched pulley.

If it can last 10 yrs then it has served it's purpose. As Ichi mentioned, it's more of a cover/insulator. If it was fully plastic, I was going to assume it would be molded out of a composite epoxy material to withstand the heat or be fire retardant.

I thought it was an ecu too but since it was an ackward yet convienent place, that threw me off. The wire loom sort of gives it away but I'm used to seeing the ecu behind the firewall.

Seeing the boxer layout is really intriguing; the battery angle and the position of the radiator not being centered.

Boy they have got some big pluming in there, that being said I have no clue what that long tube on the right is. But I think that box up front is a cold air induction box.

Subie always had em on inside passenger side foot area.

No, it's AC. frankfurt BRZ you can see AC on the right, but on VLN one is missing the AC. If you see the Geneva's BRZ chrome engine and follow that serpentine belt, it's one belt. If you delete the AC, you can't really do it... Do you see what I'm saying?

You bolt an idler pulley in that spot. It's easy to make one, especially for Toyota/Gazoo.

the box in the front could be a fuse compartment. But the bracket (front left corner) speaks against that.

If the ECU is under the bonnet, i´d say its the small black box on the left edge in the pic. That looks like one. And it has some advantages not having the ECU behind the firewall. You save space and you have parts less needing two positions (RHD/LHD) including the damn harness.

Well... It is basically a modified Subaru engine.
Would be weird if it was a Toyota filter.
