If it's sound thing, I don't think they're sound maker... but opposite. sound killer. Japan is really picky bout noise, to a lot of automobiles have sound killer to neutralize the sound (example: bus, Semi-trucks). Not sure that thing gonna come to US tho

The sound killing resonator box is already there

The big black plastic box in front of that tube (and to the left of the actual airbox) connected by a tube to the airbox.

That it's a resonator or some sort? It's a box connected to the airbox, that's a common design to quiet down intake noise. I have no idea what that box would be besides that. Usually they are attached to the box and nothing else, or the air flows through it to get to the box. In this case I'd hope it's just connected and that air doesn't have to flow through it.

As for that tube, I'm not sure what it's for. I'm sure people will remove it and cap it off if it's just a noise "enhancer"...

No, what I mean is there's a special tiny speaker near noise to reduce the noise. Res box is to reduce the noise that come from the air to intake filter but does not reduce the noise that come from the engine. Noise reducer thing is to reduce the noise that coming out from the engine to the intake.

Let me see. Some of the headphones have those outside noise reducer, so you can hear the music more clear right? In Japan, some of automobiles (bus, trucks & etc) have noise reducer equip to reduce the noise.

Hope that explain it... BUT I'm not saying that's what that thing is, I'm just guessing. Recently Toyota have been tight on spec to leak out, I haven't got much info recentlt

That's fantastic to see a proper underhood picture.

The "mystery plumbing" wrapping around the driver-side of the intake is a sound tube to plumb specifically tuned tones through the firewall. This is nothing new as madfast pointed out; the Mustang, VW GTI, and most BMW's do this. This type of sound engineering solution was first introduced in the 1st gen BMW Z4 back in the early 2000's.

Speaking of induction sound, the black polygon box between the intake tube post air-filter and the oil filter looks to be another acoustic resonance tuning enclosure. It'll cancel out certain frequencies and augment others, to tailor the sound and/or improve wavefront formation going into the intake manifold.

The oil filter looks to be in a very convenient location; hopefully it has a check-valve like current VW gas engine oil filters, making oil changes super easy and non-messy.

I do wonder what the black plastic box is in front of the alternator. It'll be interesting to see if the strut tower brace makes its way to production, or if it'll be an accessory.

Good stuff. I wanna see more!

Oh I didn't realize you meant noise cancellation. My bad. I doubt they are doing anything like that.

Thanks for the engine pic!

I thought it might be a breather intake but it does look more like an airbox resonator.

Is it me or does the intake looks like it's made out of plastic!?!

If you mean the box to the left of the filter I'm not sure that's connected to the intake at all, that looks like a guard similar to the alternator one but it's hard to tell from that pic.

Agreed on the filter. I love that location!

The box is a resonator box (left of the airbox and in front of the tube/alt).

Yes, plastic. That's a good thing as it will have excellent thermal properties to maintain cool IAT's even in traffic [good for power, bad for emissions].
