Wouldn't the aluminum scratch the paint underneath when you're putting vinyl on top of it?

Maybe, we didn't really think about that.

I was thinking more like a little button, like the real big interior ones. But paint matched so you just had this little bump on your roof. Probably just have it welded one day

Probably would be the better way to do it.

I have the BeatSonic antenna and love it. I have noticed that I slightly lose some reception with it, about 40 miles away it begins to cut in and out of HD radio BAD where it used to be fine. But I think for most people they would be fine and not traveling that far on a daily basis.

It's incredibly easy to install (make sure you line it up, it'll look very silly crooked), takes less than 5 minutes. I honestly can't see paying whatever the dealership wants for theirs.

Chances are if you don't like it, you could always take it off and find someone to buy it.

That's me. How it looks out of place more than sharkfin is beyond me..lol I got rid of a boat rudder and just put a CF plate on it until I can get the hole welded and paint..an expensive option I can't afford right now.

I put the can underneath the hole going through the inside of the car. So it was a couple layers of the can inside where the hole is then duct tape underneath that. And I want to say either the Nissan Altima or the Infiniti G37 have very low profile roof antennas that can fit our cars.
And the hole was 1 inch by about 2.5 inches
Edit- forgot to mention I shoved my antenna back into the headliner and I still have 80% reception
