Maybe it has something to do with the fact they added a rear view camera.

I have about 5 BRZ's in my inventory that I can check.

I myself, only turn on the Gear Indicator after my customer purchases it, and I always ask them if they want it first. So I can confirm the gear indicator is off by default.

My13 shows the R when in reverse. You need to enable gear indicator on manual cars. someone enabled it at the dealership lol. Unless someone with a 2016 can confirm?

Perhaps it wasn't turned on by the dealer/factory?

It would be cool, because IMHO VSC SPORT is completely useless in its current state. It feels like it's only turning the TCS and Stability systems down by about 10%, when it needs to be more like 30-50%. As a result, I never use it, and just turn everything full off.
VSC's usefulness can vary. If you're trying to doriftooooo, then yes, it's useless. But on a track, the difference between TC on and VSC is quite noticeable.

Could be someone was messing with the settings and turned it on? Like the salesman that actually knows his shit about our cars could be showing the customer some cool features that the car has and just forgot to turn it off.
