My Auxillary Reverse Lights "DIY"
Much like most of you I was quite disappointing with the output of my reverse lights. I was used to the Cree Projector R4 LEDs in my GS-R.
I went through a few pairs of replacement LEDs and finally settled with the strongest HIDPowerhouse bulbs. http://hidpowerhouse.com/shop/hybrid...sbrztoyota-86/ Light Output was still subpar. So I ordered these: http://www.banggood.com/Wholesale-Pa...t-p-48922.html I tried to get specs from supplier but no luck. They seem like direct driven LEDs. I Had to drill out my plate and my plate frame to make room for the LED bolts to fit through. I didnt have the proper size bit so my modifications are far from OEM-looking. Next step is to remove the plastic pieces in the trunk that the plate screws screw into. This can be done by compressing them with pliers and pushing them out through the exterior. Next just pop the plate back on, put the LED bolts through the holes, and thread on the nuts on the back. I still need to clean up the wiring on mine but basically you need to tap into the green reverse wires for positive and you can use the black for negative. I used vampire taps as to not mess up the the factory wiring too much. Yes I know i should have put the fuse on the positive side but I had already crimped the positive side when I realized I had run out of the counterparts to the vampire taps. I honestly just used the fuse because it was the only thing I had on me that fit into the tap. Perhaps a proper relay setup would provide more power to the bulbs but I didn't notice much difference when supplying separate power. Without knowing the specs of the bulb it makes it much less than an exact science. These LEDs don't provide much throw but every little bit helps. They also provide some needed illumination up high. I currently just have my wires hanging loose. I'd like to run them though the trunk wiring loom when I get a chance. I am also interested in @Diode Dynamics reverse kit coming out soon. Anyone try these out?: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JK020H2?ref_=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl&colid=1KHSZJU BXVB0J&coliid=I3PQ1VDSFVY9FB&pldnSite=1"]Amazon.com: iJDMTOY (2) 30W High Power CREE XP-E 912 921 920 906 LED Replacement Bulbs For Car Backup Reverse Lights: Automotive[/ame] Last edited by DC2R; 09-14-2014 at 04:03 AM. |

Don't know why one pic came out sideways but that is the one showing the output before the mod.

Cool stuff! Indeed, we will have a very nice option soon to add a pair of real backup lights to your vehicle with no cutting or major wiring.
This looks pretty good though, definitely a big improvement!

Cleaned up the wiring. Ran out of wire or I would have made it look better. Cables now properly routed through trunk wiring loom boot thingy.
