I'm not sure how much traction control you guys had on, but if you had it off via holding down the button(and possible other modes) it seems to spin the car for you in some circumstances.

You can see in the video he dusts off and gets off the throttle.
My theory is that the car still brakes to keep the Differential happy because it loses effectiveness if one of the wheels is in free spin.
The weird case is that if one side has no traction and you lift it thinks the side that is on the pavement is spinning because it doesn't slow down as fast as the side without traction.
It then brakes the wheel that is on the pavement and you can kiss you a$$ goodbye.
That is my theory.

You mean like if one of the rear wheels was hydroplaning, but the other one had okay grip, and you lift the foot off the gas, then the traction control comes in, and could potentially do something that would be counter productive? perhaps sending you into an uncontrolled spin?

In our video? The car started to rotate around while the driver was on the throttle. The driver always keeps the pedal flat through that corner. He lifted once it had already started to rotate.

In the case of splashdown it looks like a wheel got dropped off the track so the sudden change in traction initiated the spin.

But yeah, lift off oversteer is very real in this car as I've discovered more than once on the AutoX circuit where I have everything turned off. Interestingly, I keep everything turned on on the track (or maybe sport mode) and I find if I'm driving smoothly it never kicks in. It's when I start over-driving or tossing the car around like I'm on AutoX that it gets upset.

Anway, glad the OP and friend was ok - that was a testament to structural integrity but also a fair bit of luck.

These cars obviously spend a lot of time on the back roads since there are a pile of them with damage from hitting deer (and to the best of my knowledge at least one bear). Many were wrote off though so you got lucky.

No idea. I never stopped. It was 730am, raining, on my way to work. I didn't see it on the side of the road on my way home so I guess it was okay? lol

Just drove the car home and it looks excellent!
