No offense, but everyone talks about FR being fun in the snow, but when i had my bmw 335i, and put winter tires on it, it was far away from fun.

The car couldn't make it up small hills and i would always get stuck. Worst experience ever. I don't know if it was the tire, i was using Yokohama W's

If you want fun in the snow, buy a AWD.

This car is outstanding in the snow with good winter tires. That's also with me being lowered around 2 inches during winter. I had zero problems. Not getting stuck is all about momentum

It might have had an open diff and you were spinning one wheel. Fortunately the 86 has a factory Torsen LSD, so both wheels have to lose traction before you can't go anywhere.

But in the end you're right, AWD owns snow. I had two STis and an Evo, and they had so much control on snow it was silly. Snow drifting was point and shoot. RWD requires more skill and feels like a more delicate balance when things get sideways, but its more rewarding.

Your mother probably drove RWD in the snow.
Your Grandmother certainly drove RWD in the snow.
Your Great Grandmother (if she drove at all) drove RWD in the snow.

Don't let anybody give you this BS that RWD is no good in the snow.

Follow all the instructions already provided and you will wave bye bye to many AWDs and "better" snow vehicles as they are stuck on the side of the road or in the ditch.

Thank you. Quality snow tires, properly carrying momentum and not panicking is key.

Ive been through two winters in the city with this car, i dont want to do it this winter. The amount of times ive almost gotten stuck. My winters are crap though, a good snow tire is needed. Also rust proof as im already starting see rust in my subframes.

I have the best snow tires, and while yes, if you drive reasonably you won't have many problems, it is far from an amazing experience. Drive carefully, safely, and you'll be fine, and of course, equip yourself with a good set of snow tires.

This car isn't AWD and it won't handle like one.

I have to agree with you.

My last 2 cars before my BRZ were both 335i's (an '07 and then an '08), and they were AWFUL in the snow, even with Blizzaks! I got stuck in my own driveway more times than I can count! BRZ? Never stuck ONCE last winter. This car feels like a Hummer in comparison!

I don't know if it was the copious power that the BMW had, or perhaps the extra 1000lbs, but I thought the BRZ would be way worse in the snow. Boy was I wrong! Complete opposite!

PS it's June 19th. Why the hell are we talking about winter?! :P

I have the Xice 3. Drove through 2 blizzards and never got stuck. I keep 200lb in the trunk and shovel just in case though.

I did not have my snows on in time for the first snow-fall last winter and it was like driving on marbles.

Otherwise, don't drive like a douche and you should be fine.

I didn't get stuck once last winter.

I live north of Bolton and we get hammered with snow every year. The second big snow-fall last year, the snow was up past the bottom of my front bumper. Somehow, I still made it out of my UPHILL driveway, and all the way out of my subdivision, without getting stuck. I basically plowed the snow in front of me. I was crazy impressed.

I can not overstate how much fun this car is to slide around in the snow as well. BE RESPONSIBLE though...I almost got booked a couple of times throwing some donuts in random parking lots.
Curious.. I just picked up my FR-S about two weeks ago... figured snows were mandatory, even my old Civic needed em desperately. I'm not too far from Bolton so I see about the same weather... which tires are you using for these brutal Ontario winters?
