![]() ![]() I had a similar experience when I was younger and a better driver than what I have deteriorated into. My GTS-T was pretty much stock with simple upgrades that only accentuated the stock car; they didn't change the character as much as they optimized the original car and people always thought there was all sorts of crazy stuff under the skin. Nope, just a clean and tight stock Skyline running absolutely perfect with a guy behind the wheel who put in the seat time to optimize himself to the same level. I could put that car exactly where I wanted it, I made a pass through a hole shorter than the length of the car once by swinging the tail at some silly speed. After the fact I went "WTF did I just do?" but it was already done instinctively. Years later, I drive a car that would carve circles around that old Skyline, but have maybe 10% of the skill that younger me had so the car is really bored with me. Modify your car as you wish and stay true to your vision for it, but for me, until something on this car demonstrates itself to stand in the way of getting something accomplished I'm not changing a damned thing. So far, it goes fast enough, handles and stops better than anything I've ever experienced and looks sexier than Eva Mendes covered in warm honey. We cool.

Don't fall into modding your car, its a very very slippery slope (spoken from experience here).

One mod alone will look strange... Once you lower you've got to get wheels. Once you get a lip you'd better be lowered. Once you ... Get the point
Best mods for me have been ride quality mods. Get the TRD strut brace and door stabilizers. |

Research can occupy time and hold off purchase for a surprising amount of time. Plenty of info. Dig in. |

My advice would be to think about what you want in the end, come up with some sort of goal. Then research those things, and as you decide what you want, see how it fits with the rest of the plan. Buy as you can afford.
I see so many guys selling stuff, because their plan changed. Take advantage of this, and look for used parts, but keep your plan in mind, so you aren't the one losing money on parts. And finally, build what YOU want. Listen to opinions, but don't do something to YOUR car, that someone else thinks you should do. If you want to cover it in pink fur with a unicorn horn on the hood, do it. Build it for you. |
