Just a supercharged celica engine, with a different ECU. They're internally the same as the celica or matrix xrs.

The low-displacement turbocharged engine is a relatively new thing in the luxury car market, with the exception of Audi's VW-sourced motors.

Depends which one you're talking about. The old small one is a supercharged 2ZZ-GE, the same engine in the Celica GTS and Matrix/Corolla XRS. The new one is a supercharged 2GR-FE, the Camry V6, RAV4 V6, Highland V6, and Sienna engine.

Highland V6? Sounds torquey. These would all be good ideas for an MR2 engine swap
