I got my 3M clear bra from the Toyota dealership, they did an amazing job. Rust proof undercoating was part of the package. I think it was $1000-1500.

I was refering to my old Celica. I drove it year round and had it Krowned every fall.
The grime just comes out of all the seams and the car is just perpetually dirty because of it. The Krown definitely stopped any serious rust from developing and kept the underbody & structure in good condition -- especially compared to some fellow Celica owners in my area who ended up developing terminal rust (ie: holes in door sills and rockers etc). It's not perfect though -- I still ended up having surface rust in all the usual places after 12 winters and 265k km. Edit: To clarify surface rust was in areas where paint damage had occurred (ie: stone chips, leading edges of the front fenders, trailing edges of the rear wheel wells and the edges of the driver side door that had been repaired & repainted years earlier due to a schmuck sliding into it in an icy parking lot). There isn't any kind rust proofing that can prevent that kind of rust. I'm sad my Celica didn't last longer. I loved that car... and for that reason my FR-S will stay parked in the garage during the winters.... Though I am still considering getting it Krowned just to make sure it lasts forever. Rust Checked mine last Friday. It was painful watching them drill holes in my new car.
Edit: Good stuff. I've been using it for close to 20 years. http://www.rustcheck.com/ Last edited by roddy; 10-04-2012 at 10:25 PM. |

I went to krown about a month ago. They normally drill 2 holes on the side of each door, but I requested that they only drill one and lightly coat the engine bay. It took a couple of days to fully stop dripping around 4-5 days. Anyone that wants their car detailed should go to krown first wait 5 days then get it detailed.

Personally I'd skip the engine bay when using Krown. It gets so nasty...

I know the Krown I went to mentioned that if I don't drill the hole on the door they won't warrant the door if it rusts.

Like Brianc said the warranty will be voided, however I opted for 1 hole to be drilled on the door(picture below), they also drilled into the quarter panel (picture below). They did cover the holes with a rubber grommet

Thanks for the pics. I'm so torn. I have an 8 year old white Echo with no sign of rust that I drive year-round.... and no rust proofing.... however, I don't know how good Subaru are at rust-resistance..... but I don't want the holes....
