Good Rust Proof, Clear Bra places in GTA
 

Hey everyone,

I have yet to buy an FRS but as my lease on my civic ends at the end of this year, I am thinking of getting the FRS.

I have heard many people with plans on modding their FRS and stuff like that.. but not a lot of people talked about rust proofing and clear bra protection.

I will be using the car daily and will be driving it during the winter time so I think these are the 2 things that I would be doing first if I was to purchase the FRS.

Anyone know Good places to get the car rust proof and clear bra ? I often heard people saying krown does a good job with rust proof, but I want the dealer style rust proof (dripless) anyone have ideas ? I am looking for services within GTA, it'll be great if it's within Markham, Richmond Hill, Vaughan area.

I'm getting the clear bra installed, but don't have a price or time frame yet. The sooner the better though - before you get any paint chips!

Actually you DON'T want a dealer style rust proofing as it's usually crap.

A proper rust proof job will NOT be dripless. Dripping is a sign that they've done a good job getting at damn near every weld and seam which is what you really want covered. I've used Krown for years and trust their technique implicitly. Plus it's an annual application, but worth it if you plan to keep this car for a long time. My 14 year Acura is still rust free.

The dripping only lasts a day or two, and you can wash the car after no problem to remove any excess that will seep after and if your especially anal, you will want to detail the engine bay as it will see some spraying, but the whole point of rustproofing is to displace any moisture from getting at and corroding any weak spots, hence why oil spray will always be best to protect your car, and why it will drip.

+1 moniz. Rust Check is another good one. I've been using it on my daily drivers for close to 20 yrs.

Wow thank you for your quick comments ! I'm totally new with rust proofing as I thought my mechanic told me the dealer rust proof is best.

Will the krown rust proof hardens eventually ? As well, I think I will be getting the car during the winter time.. will that affect the rust proofing job ?

No it doesn't harden but in the engine bay it will attract dust and crap but nothing a detailing job won't take care of.

As far as winter, don't worry. Krown will apply year round. Applying in spring will be alright cause that's actually the worst time that rust will start because it's the constant warm temps that will activate any salt to start attacking any exposed or weak spots.

Best bet is to call a location and go in to get them to explain their process and set your mind at ease.

I also used krown rust on my cars, most recently my 2002 celica, keeping it rust free and looking new-ish until I traded it in last week. what I did notice was that the car was noticeably louder on the inside sometime after I had the rustproofing done. I used to think it might be the holes that were drilled affecting the sound insulation of the vehicle but a mechanic told me that it was the oils getting on the rubber seams around the doors causing them to dry out or harden and thus preventing a good seal around the door/window hence the noise penetration. So if you have it done, I would suggest wiping the oil off the rubber components/seals around the door. Can anyone concur with this or heard of this being true?

then again i think taking care of your rubber pieces is important regardless.

I think I used to clean/detail my entire car exept the rubber pieces-:bonk: prior to hearing this I would have thought the oils would have kept the seals in better condition...it seems quite the opposite may be the case.

i'm no chemist, but i'm sure it has to do with what type of rubbers and what type of oil

also the whole "over time" thing is a really long time.

It was explained to me at the dealership that their rustproofing has a lifetime warranty against any rust (not just perforation) as long as you go in for a $25 refresh each year.

I'm currently trying to decide if I want to go for that. To me it doesn't really matter what they use or how they use it when they're offering that kind of warranty. The downside is the initial cost of around $500 if I recall.

I'm gonna call BS. Check the fine print on that warranty. There's a reason why all corrosion warranties do not cover surface rust; surface rust more often than not is a result of the paint being chipped away from road debris over the course of driving the car over a long period of time. It's gonna happen no matter what you do. All exposed metal over time will rust, hence why it's important fix those stone chips as soon as you find them i.e.: touch up paint.

That non drip wax rustproof they try to sell you at the dealership isn't that great in my opinion. It can trap moisture and dirty inside and eventually just cause rust.. I'd recommend Krown if you really are worried about rust. I'd get the engine bay cleaned after Krown does their work though.. It's messy and working on your car after you get oil sprayed everywhere SUCKS.

You could take the chance and not rust proof the car if you keep it really clean. I know some guys who just wash their car everyday over the winter.

so did anyone get Krown on their FRS yet? how's the result?
