Thanks for the comments and support!

Found a nest in the engine compartment next the cable port in the firewall. They used sponge and rubber for the nest...not sure were they got it from at this stage. I could not see any obvious damage in the engine bay, but the local Subaru dealer will take a look on Monday.

I have mouse traps with peanut butter set along with DeCon trays.

Wish me luck.

Love it! I actually have three cats. They go crazy when I let them smell the nest material, but they look at me saying, "What do you want me to do? This is your problem!"

LOL - Don't feed them for a couple days. They'll figure it out quickly enough.

You could try stashing some fabric softener sheets in strategic locations under your hood and in/around your car. The smell repels mice. You'll still want to put out traps and kill them, but at least they won't be damaging your car in the interim.

OTOH, OP, maybe it's a racoon. They're omnivores and are good at tearing into stuff.

Have you ever seen mouse shit? It can very easily be confused for small pieces of rubber. Next time I have a mouse in my house or garage I'll be sure to get you a pic since apparently Google doesn't work for you...

I feel your pain, OP. I've had an issue with mice in the past...two different occurrences, and I have no idea what caused them to set up shop in the glove box of my 2010 Civic.

Back story: I keep a handful of paper napkins in my glove box, so if I ever need to check/work under the hood while going to/coming from somewhere important, I can clean my hands up a bit. One day I noticed some of the paper was finely shredded, and little droppings were mixed in. Put a baited glue trap in there, and voila, found a wild mouse the next morning. I still have no idea what caused it to get in there. Happened a couple months later, too. It's been about a year since the last mouse, and have had good luck.

Long story short, OP, I'd recommend trying some baited glue traps for a couple days. it could very well be a couple (or even just one mouse) doing all of that mess. The glue traps are nice cause they physically catch the mice. I've had issues with them eating poison and then dying in less-than-ideal locations....hopefully that helps!

I have a car in storage and for a while I used baited glue traps (caught one of the little bastards in the trap). When it was time for more glue traps the guy at the shop recommended non-scented glue traps. He explained that you don't want to attract rodents to your car, they have a very strong sense of smell.

Since using the non scented traps, I have yet to see a mouse in the last three years.

Not the BRZ but mice nonetheless. I had one of those ultrasonic things plugged in and it seemed to work well, that is until it got blown in a power surge.

So, the local dealer assessed the damage today. The insulation below the a\c condenser had been destroyed...that's where the spongy insulation came from. As for the rubber, they agreed that it looks like door seals, but could not see any missing...will take another look during the upcoming service. For now, my baby stays out in the cold until the traps do their job.

Thanks for all the advice!
