Once the new gen comes out you'll be waiting for new-new gen after that because it will be even better

Things don't always move in a direction that will satisfy your personal tastes. Just look at all the versions of the Ford Mustang, holy cow! Some are absolutely horrendous.

From personal experience, I had a 2006 Infiniti G35 coupe, and I knew they would be updating the vehicle. The G37 came out and I honestly didn't like what they did with the styling.

If you're really not in a rush and your sister's TC is in good shape there's no harm in waiting.

There's nothing new happening in 2015, but we should at least know whether there will be any changes for 2016. Then you can make the call if you like the changes or not. You'll still be able to find the current gen if you want, or wait a little longer for the next gen.

In the meantime, put some money away. After a year you'd have a nice down payment ready and if you decide to wait for a possible next gen you'll have an even nicer down payment ready to go.

It is a gamble though. Toyota has the nasty habit of pricing their vehicles out of their class with subsequent versions, and if Toyota doesn't do it the dealers do by tacking on every available option. The FR-S as it currently stands is just not a 30k+ dollar car.

The first of everything is always the best!

There isn't a whole lot they can do to this car to make it substantially better at the same price point. On the other hand, Toyota being the conservative company they are, will probably dumb the car down over time.. Just my guess.

You will have multiple answers here:

1) get an FR-S now because they won't make a second gen. (potentially people upset that a better model will come out)

2) Even if they make a second gen it wont be as awesome as the first. (definitely people upset another model may come out)

3) wait and see (those optimistic about the possibility of the next gen)

4) No one cares do what you want (people like myself who think it's your money so you make the decision, rather than random ass people on the internet.)

Good luck with whatever path you take. I can't imagine you will be upset either way.

I'd personally wait to see what they release or get another car. I know everyone here loves our 86s but I was 50/50 split between the FiST/ FoST and still am even after getting my 86.

IMHO get it now. I see you're in Honolulu which the only dealership is Servco Scion that sells the FRS. Buy it now because they have the low awesome interest rate of 0.9% for 5 yrs. I bought mine a month ago with that low interest rate which = $558.00 interest for 5 yrs. The low interest rate is good till the end of this month. Buy it, Buy it, Buy it....

The 2015 FR-S Looks as the complete look of the first gen model, which I believe is the classiest, sexiest looking animal on the streets.
And you never know the 2016 FR-S will come out with a facelift looking completely opposite of its finesse with a bulkier hood... endless. Yuck.

If you are willing to wait, you do not really want one. If you don't REALLY want one, don't get a sports-car cause they are not a logical choice in the first place; they are an emotional reaction.

Since you are trying to be all sensible about this purchase, might I recommend something in a nice beige Camry that might make more sense? (yes, I am kidding you)

I don't agree with that, there is nothing wrong with being patient before making a big purchase. I had wanted a 86 since the concepts came out. I knew I would own one, it was just a matter of time. I'm glad I waited because I was able to get a Monogram, which was exactly what I wanted. If I had pulled the trigger early, I would have had a small level of regret.

Waiting wouldn't hurt. Especially since you'll probably get a steal on the current Gen if you're not a fan of the new one.
