Should I get a scion frs right now or wait?

I am deciding whether to get a scion frs right now or wait for the 2nd generation to come out and use my sister's scion tc (first generation). Also when should I expect for the 2nd generation to come out?

Depends what your going after...

the reason i bought a 2015 one is because it fit everything i wanted. The raw oldschool jdm feel and good on gas as well as rear seats and had a sexy body.

No idea what the next gen will look like or when it will come out and don't really care haha.

However, if something like hp is holding you back and you want to wait for 2nd gen in hope it will be quicker than wait.

I notice that in life, if you don't buy what you want, you'll regret it.

So don't feel pressured into the purchase and really look at the FRS and question what you don't like about it and if that will be something you will regret not having.

If you're waiting for the next generation FRS, that might be 2017. Toyota generally has done this cycle with their cars:

Year 1-4 (4 Years) -- Car will have slight to no differences.

Year 5 - 7 (2 Years) - Facelift

Next Generation then comes.

Don't expect a turbo or AWD, look at Tada's Q&A video.

If you're going to buy a normal 2015, it doesn't matter when you buy it this year. All this pure pricing makes it impossible to negotiate the price.

If you want a 2015 TRD Yellow FRS, jump on it now because it's in limited production.

If you're eyeing a 2013-2014 FRS, take your time and negotiate because those are just sitting on the lot and dealers want to move it.

Waiting for a newer "better" version is a bit of a crap shoot. Sometimes they are better sometimes they are not. I have seen some great cars "improved" to the point they were no longer even remotely the same as the models that made them popular in the first place.
I do not see massive changes in the FRS's future even in the next generation as they spent a pile of time and money making the car they were looking for in the first place.
Another consideration that people tend to not think of is what the government may mandate in the period between major changes. As N1rve says, Toyota is pretty predictable in their pattern of upgrades.
This would put the fully changed, next generation version sometime around 2018-19. In the period in between any government (remember this is a global platform) could change the crash survivability, emission control, minimum mileage or any other requirement they can think of. Any one of these requirements could have a major impact on the what the car turns into.
Even if no government makes a change, Toyota itself may decide they have got as much as they can out of the current target demographic and change the car to meet a larger audience. It is actually my opinion that they have already started this process, with the suspension changes in the 2015s (not saying it is better or worse) which has made the car more appealing to a larger market. Who knows, they may even decide that is isn't making enough money and drop it altogether.


Now, on the plus side changes in technology, consumer feedback, lessons learned from current models and even designer passion may produce a next gen that is spectacular!

I was just in the same position as the OP. I drove an FRS for the first time yesterday and HAD to pull the trigger - immediately. Awesome car.

Plenty of haggle room btw, at least in my experience.

Or, they could gradually raise the price until it no longer fits the original market it was intended for. Which is what happened to the car this one reminds me of most, the Porsche 944. Affordable at introduction, then "improved" to the point of unaffordable.

I would find a 10 series or Monogram. There are still new ones sitting on lots. Check autotrader. I found a few around me that are brand new. I bet they are willing to haggle.
