Good point.

I totally forgot about ramps since I dropped my Infiniti G35x. LOL

Ramps are the best for oil changes. It's fast and easy.

I use ramps too. Both have their purposes as there are many things you can't do with ramps, just like a drive on lift is quick and easy but not as useful as a 2 post lift.

I wish I could find a good steel jack like the old AC Jacks, those things would take massive abuse and still work 10 years later. I'm lucky to get 6 months of trouble free usage out of a HF aluminum jack. I still use the HF jacks because, as pointed out above, they are light, easy to carry and cheap enough to not worry about replacing, except that I could have bought a higher end jack by now with all the HF junk I've been through :P

I do love the HF Aluminum jackstands though.

I have a harbor freight jack. Has stood up to oil, tire, and suspension changes on my car for 3 years so far. Only thing is its not aluminum and its heavy as hell. I see that many of the "corner tire change" places have harbor freight jacks and they look older than me so I feel pretty comfortable using them.

My blue lightweight Harbor Freight Jack is coming up on ten years of use. Had a small issue with a bur inside the front roller that wouldn't let it turn 6 or 7 years ago, but I took care of that, and no issues since. I've used it a lot for changing tires when autocrossing, but since it is so light and easy to move around, use it a lot in my garage too since it weighs about 1/4 of what my large steel floor jack does.

I am also in need of a new floor jack. Here are the criteria that I use:

1. Saddle height and edge height is important to get under low cars

2. The maximum lift height is important if you want to fit a taller jackstand and/or a creeper under the car

3. The weight is important if you will be transporting it to an event as is advertised for our cars

I broke a Craftsman aluminum "racing" jack a few years back and have been relying on my "trusty" Walmart $19.95 special with "custom" scrap-wood jack pad ever since.

I plan to buy one of the following jacks, as they are relatively light weight, have low sides and a saddle height of only 3.5", and lift to a full height over 19".

If I use them a lot, I really don't expect either to last more than 3 or 4 years. Any more than that would be a great bonus. For that kind of reliability I think you would need to spend a lot more money, something like this:

I went with an American made, heavy steel floor jack after my Made in China one failed.

I'll throw in another vote for the Harbor Freight one.

I have the racing jack version Here.

Honestly one of my top 3 favorite tools. I love it.

currently comparing the 3t and 1.5t (with the future in mind after the FRS possibly) for stock height

We all know the 1.5t works to reach the front
http://www.harborfreight.com/15-ton-...ump-69252.html

But will this 3t work as well? Seems like the product height and length is better on this ?
http://www.harborfreight.com/3-ton-s...ump-68048.html

edit: ended up with this one for $81.99 compared to $79.99 for the 3t.

Personally (as I get a discount) I got the Autozone aluminum jack. Higher capacity and it was MUCH cheaper for me than the HF one. Hell, it was cheaper without my discount.

It's still heavy though...

Just make sure to use a pinch weld adapter!

hf i used the aluminum 1.5 ton everyone has for about 7 years like a champ, and its still going great,

recently picked up the low profile steel 2 ton model. having near an extra foot of lift is very nice.

Pay attention to the lift height as well. Bought the 1.5 compact one and realized it didn't lift high enough for me, and had to buy another one. It's fine since i can still use the compact one at the track.
