I'd beg to differ.

Everything is stressed out, there will be odd rates of impact that will wear them out. Same with axles and the diff, they'll be taking odd stresses that they aren't normally use to. Not that his diff will shit out on him anytime soon, this car is meant to see some track work from the factory.

I'm pretty damn sure it's the drifting that damaged the shock. If every morning or night he's doing drifting and it adds up to 9k miles, then it makes complete sense to me.

Sit down and imagine what the rear is going through when your drifting. The constant slippage and grip working back and forth? There's a reason why not many people are buying dirt cheap drift cars and turning them into daily drivers or track toys.

We could sit here all day arguing about this because there is no hard facts on this. Just take it to the dealer and make them change it.

You're missing the fact that the rear shock doesn't support or locate the rear suspension though. The UCA, LCA, trailing link and toe link do ALL the work for keeping the wheel where it should be. The only thing the shock does it dampen vertical movement.

If it was a rear strut where the shock was an integral part of the geometry, then maybe.

Think about exactly what the difference in load to the shock is if the rear is slipping or gripping. It's essentially no different. You'll put more load on the rear shocks going straight on a gravel road than you will drifting on a smooth track.

The OP is French. I don't think he's drifting the way we would use that term.

A roundabout is very short. He is drifting coming out of the roundabout, so for a second or two each time he drives through one, traffic permitting.

This qualifies as normal driving for these cars.

I agree that drifting a car as it is done for sport (or is it art?) could well pound the bejeezus (technical term) out of the factory shocks but that's not what this guy is doing, probably.

Our winters would pound on the shocks much more than roundabout drifting ever could.

Time to go for coil's
1) Warranty the shocks
2) Get aftermarket coilovers after warranty

If you don't warranty them, you're leaving money on the table.

I'm on oem shocks with Tein S-tech since July'12 until now with about 47000 km and it's still fine. No excuse to go for a new coil yet.

Nope. I was running 225 45 17. This was ages ago. Now running with a KW Clubsport and the ride quality is much better.

Stock height, 5 YEARS, (tracking every year) 100,000 KM and were still fine when I swapped to another set of new (2016) stock shocks from someone who bought something expensive.

After putting on the "new" stockers I noticed no difference in handling. My old shocks were still good.
