That would be due to the shape - this knob has a fairly straight vertical edge. Compare to a more shapely STI knob and you'll see how they encourage different grips.

I could see myself using that knob to manually operate 6 forward Cogs and one reverse.

It's not going to work miracles, but before even when I had my sunshade up my slammer was like touching the surface of the sun. Now sunshade + thermal bag and I can comfortably drive away without blowing on my fingers like a Grits n' Gravy at a Friday night craps game.
