That's weird. Especially for a mass produced product. Though I'll say the brightness of turn signals is useless to some people because half the people on the road don't use or pay attention to them anyways. It's sad.
I never noticed a light difference with these black bulbs. If you're not coating them in 17 layers of niteshade you should be just fine. I only ever did enough to get the orange on the bulb gone. ___________________ I never did them for the tail lights. I'm debating on redding-out my tails anyways so it would be kind of useless. I suppose I could transfer them to the back quick to see what they'd look like...for science!

nice write-up! Good for people who have a can of niteshades or can splurge for a $7 dollar can.
Lots of angry people in this thread for some reason lol |

That's a nice way to add some edge look on the car. I purchased set of chrome plated bulbs and am very happy with the purchase. It was only 3.99. If those go back in the long run, I'll do this diy.

Only enough to get the orange gone. Maybe two? I honestly don't remember I did it forever ago.

Do you have any pictures of them lit up? Would like to see how bright they are compared to stock.

I just did this the other day....It really didn't seem to dim them that much. I have some un-painted bulbs, maybe tomorrow I can do a comparison pic and post it up.

Why would you? LED bulbs aren't orange. You can dip them black and peel away the top of each SMD.

Well I just wanted a way to get rid of the white housing of the LED. I blacked out my headlights and they really stick out now. I didn't know if getting anything on the individual LEDs would mess them up.

Not at all. Just uncover the top.
