Agreed with those above: Keep the 4Runner. That is a great model and a perfect winter car. Think of it this way: it's never losing value now. It's like having a few thousand in the bank. I have a Jeep, FYI, for trucky duties and snow.

I have a 97 4 runner for daily and winter. Car for summer nice days. If I was strapped to having only one vehicle that had to be used in all seasons including where snow was abound NO it would not be a FRS or BRZ no sir.

I have a 4Runner (2007 bought new) and Tundra (2005) both with 150k+. My debate is which one to replace with an FR-S. Both are great vehicles for intended purposes. If extended cab of Tundra was a little bigger, it would be a no brainer, but back seat is tight for growing teenager....

I think I've been convinced to keep the 4runner. I was already leaning that way just because I love it but I agree that a 4runner, fr-a/brz combo sounds great. It would probably cost more in the long run if I messed up my new car rather than just saving and keeping the 4runner ahead of time. Plus it's just too fun in the winter driving a t4r. I almost look forward to horrible weather.

I would strongly recommend keeping the 4Runner. I have both an FR-S and a 4Runner and I think the combination does a great job of taking care of all my transportation needs. Having a second vehicle that can transport 5 people or large bulky items relieved me of all worries about that small back seat and trunk. Having the 4Runner also allowed me to keep summer tires on my FR-S year round. On those few snowy/icy days we have each winter, the FR-S stays snugly in the garage while the 4Runner 4x4 capably handles bad road conditions.

Man, there are a lot of T4R owners on here. lol
Well, I moved from AZ to IL in the middle of this miserable winter. I had an '05 4Runner that was RWD, because in AZ it doesn't matter really. (I still got nearly everywhere that all my 4WD friends did). So moving out here I slapped some nice all-seasons on it and it handled the winter just fine. Last week I got rid of the T4R (sold it to my parents) and bought a very lightly used '13 FR-S. I'm honestly not worried about winter at all. I will be getting a set of very good winter tires, and just taking it easy. Lots of guys I work with have RWD cars and handle the winter just fine. Granted, my commute to work is only about 5 miles down a major road that is always plowed. That being said, I'm 25, live in an apartment, and single. So now is the time for me to own a sports car, because I'm only worried about being able to drive around myself and the occasional pretty girl. lol In your case though, if the 4Runner is paid off, or close to it, I would keep it just in case. lol

Tally another one up to keep the T4R and also get the FRS. The two complement each other quite well. I love taking corners, canyon carving, freeway onramps, etc but I also love me some summer camping, trips to Mammoth, and overall comfort the T4R provides. Only knock on the T4R is the mile economy, but my '05 Sport 4WD is going strong at 130k miles with barely any more maintenance that the regular oil changes and tires after ~65k miles. #t4r.orgreunion

I'm loving the amount of people to keep the 4runner and buy an fr-s. I guess I'm not the first to make this decision

It really depends where in PA you live and how well they plow/how mountainous it is there. I have an FJ which is the 4runner in different clothes really...and its great to have space to put stuff, and have 4wd in the snow and ice. But the 86 was decent in the snow but I wouldnt take it snowboarding or anything, nor would I put my wife and kid in it in the snow with me...I drive 1 mile to work and back thats pretty much it in the snow as the wife drives the cruiser to and from work. If you can keep the 4runner you wont regret it...my grandfathers 07 4runner has well over 200k on it and all he does is change the oil...the things are damn near bullet proof. The 86....not so much.

Hah you can find me on T4R.org as well. The utility of my 2002 has proven itself many times over. It's currently the beach cruiser- there's no way I'd be able to transport 11' paddle boards without it. Not to mention trips to Lowe's, moving, hauling trash/recycling, hell - I've even slept in the back at music festivals.
I vote keep. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I had a 2007 tacoma. The frs bug bit me and I decided to part ways with my tacoma for the frs. To this day I still don't regret my decision, but... I did go out and buy a '94 4runner. I just had to have the best of both worlds.
