How NOT to Sell a New Car

Well, I'm sure you've heard of some of the Tesla's catching fire while sitting still.

Then there's the old saying in Nascar of "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday". Well............it might be hard to sell on Monday when you're brand new hot rod, the Chevy SS ($43K+) catches fire on National TV during a race.

Yep. Had nothing to do with the car itself but I am sure the 'Murican car and GM haters will take it and run with it.

You didn't see all those Ferrari F458s just catching fire after being driven for a little while, 20 - 30 minutes to get ´em warmed up.

Just received this:

Chevrolet says battery pack may have caused pace car fire at Daytona DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Chevrolet officials are still trying to figure out how the trunk of its Chevrolet SS pace car caught on fire Saturday night during the Sprint Unlimited.
The pace car caught fire prior to the final segment of the 75-lap event. The two NASCSAR officials in the car were able to exit the car unharmed, including pace car driver and former Cup driver Brett Bodine.

Seems like they're not so sure what caused it yet....

You would be correct to note the similarities. The old G8 is a Pontiac badged version of the previous Holden Commodore. This new Chevrolet SS is the current Holden Commodore, unlike the G8 though you're getting the big 6.2L V8 performance version as the only trim.

Yea I remember the days I used to work for Pontiac. Almost bought a leftover G8 GXP in 2010. Good cars from what I remember. Get a lot of car for the money. The GTO however was a flop IMHO.

The GTO is a tempting buy now though. LS1 with a manual can be had for very low teens. Not too bad when you consider how similar it is to a $40k camaro SS.

I like the GTO *way* better than the Camaro. It looks like a low-slung sports car next to the ridiculously high bricktastic Camaro. I wouldn't mind an LS2 6-speed one, but would prefer the earlier hood with no scoops.

The new SS looks like the generic plain-vanilla version of the G8. I'd rock a G8 GXP 6-speed. Not digging the SS much... Those big dumb gold Chevy bowties are awful. At least they didn't throw one on the corvette...
