Just had my first 86 service (9 months) and the car was fitted with a Toyota branded Denso (Thailand made) filter model 90915-YZZS2. The filter box said "For FA20", so I'm happy its compatible but is it the best?

My car was built Aug 2014 and came with the Subaru 15208AA130.

Its the same diameter as the 130, but not as high.

A search of the YZZS2 shows little info, but some results show for the YZZS1. What's the difference?

Some forums back in 2013 say the 15208AA160 is the successor to the 15208AA130, but if so why was the 130 factory fitted in 2014.

Is there is a reason for the size change? Should I search for some 130's?

I prefer to use the 130 if I can. That doesn't make it "better" than any other filter, just my personal preference. I have used the new Toyota filter as well. It doesn't have the same "feel" as the 130...it's thinner and lighter, and the metal/paint is of lesser quality. I can't help wondering if the same applies to the quality of the filtration material inside. The 130 is also a larger filter, which will marginally increase the capacity of the oil in the system...always a good thing.
Others have said that the 130 is being phased out...a recent check with my local Subi dealer shows over 3500 of them in the local Canadian warehouse, so I don't think they're going away any time soon.
In the end, I don't think any of the filters that you can buy from your dealership are going to be a bad filter, but I'll stick with the 15208AA130 as long as I can.

90915-YZZS2 doesn't show up in Toyota's part lookup or availability screen here in Canada. It must be unique to your market.
