Yeah... isn't it a recommendation for your first service (meaning oil change) to be earlier, just since to clear out whatever comes out during the break-in period?

EDIT: By "recommendation," I meant within the community and not necessarily something in the owners manual.

I've given up on caring about little stuff. My wife has backed into my door, my front bumper looked like a ginger kid's face after about 12k (no offense, red headed ones), and it appears that unlike my silver vw which hid everything, it's dirty after a day of driving.

That's basically what you have to do. There are naturally going to be some things out of your control, and they're generally much worse.

I'm reminded of a cousin of mine who got an FR-S after she graduated from nursing school, and on a short trip to San Diego, her parents insisted that she take a rental car instead so the car wouldn't get scratched.

You want something done right? Do it yourself. I do all my own maintenance and detailing. Always have. The exception was on the free service included on my Mini Cooper for the first 30k miles. And yes, they did wash it when I asked them not to.

Just realized that I have my last free service this week... Luckily Orlando Toyota/Scion has been absolutely stellar with me. Anything I ask them to do/not do, they are on point with it.

I always do my own maintenance... But being the first brand new car I've had in the past 8 years... I figure, why not?

I slammed them on the customer service survey, managers contacted me and refused to refund me for the paint and fabric protection, instead they offered me another detail job which I refused then their final offer was $200 credit, which I got them to cut me a check for because I will not bring the car back to them for any service. I recently took my car in for the first service at Mossy Toyota in Pacific Beach and they were great, asked for them not to wash and they fulfilled my request and I was in and out of there in 1 hour.

and back to the OP, I would be just as pissed as you are if the dealer did not listen to my simple request.

I have found that this is a true statement. Just do your own maintenance and you will have no worries. Since this isn't a luxury model you are not going to get the level of service that you want and/or expect. When I owned my EVO VIII I was often irritated with the poor level of service and competence that Mitsubishi dealerships provided. I took a deep breath and I looked around at their car lot and it then dawned on me that they sold mainly boring cheap commuter cars. I realized that I was expecting more than they were capable of providing. After that I did all of my own maintenance.

Sucks they didn't listen to you bro. But I mean it's just a car wash. There isn't a whole lot that a good detail cant fix anyway. Enjoy it while it shines. Avoid looking for swirls because let's face it even the hardest attempt at a perfect wash will likely result in a swirl or 2. Orrr look closer and realize the paint job is awful to begin with and just drive it

Yep, I hear that ....

A few years back, ONCE, I had my nicely waxed car "washed" at a dealership. Yep, I think they used a combination of sulfuric acid and Comet clenser ..... then rinsed it with waste water from the sump.

I, like you, was not a happy owner.

So, what I have done the past few years is, in addition to telling the service writer NOT to have the car washed, I ask him to write that in large simple words on the work order "DO NOT WASH"!

In addition, since an "assumption" (which is the mother of all F _ _ _ ups) is that the tech actually reads the work order, may be weak.

I tape a large piece of paper with large print, on the dash, that reads: DO NOT WASH THIS CAR!

That has worked for me .....

this is why i don't go to dealers to do basic work that can be done yourself....

almost a year now and i have not been to a dealer.. i try and avoid them.. i only go if its something serious

Give them a break. They're not just servicing you car, and there are prob 5 + ppl invovled in taking care of your car. The service writer is not the guy that does the oil change, is not the guy that washes the car. Mix in 10+ cars in the service bay at any one time and lots of "simple requests" get forgotten. Everyone just does their job. The car wash guys... wash cars.
