The thanks is for ack that there is def something wonky with how the processor is addressing the files on the unit. Wondering what a good oem after market sound controller / stereo would be that fits in the FRS console.

So I took a little extra time and re-organized a bit. Just made folders that have slightly less than 255 songs in it (for example, I have Rock A-F, Rock G-R, Rock S-Z). This is at least allowing all songs to be loaded properly.

A little more investigation into this has led to the conclusion that it's not the USB stick's fault, nor is it FAT32's fault. The fault is with the way Linux natively handles the "loading" of files. It can only load 256 files at once, unless otherwise specified. The "wonky" part about all of this is that the head unit IS actually loading all of those files before it displays them. I noticed that when I view a folder, it only lists the song name - presumably taken from the ID3 tag. This means that the files are all loaded by the head-unit to read those tags, instead of simply listing all of the files out. (This is annoying in itself, just based off of the way I re-named all of the files.)

As for "good" replacement units, I'm not sure. I haven't even really looked into replacing it, although I've seen that there are a few threads about replacement options already.
