Agreed techs love warranty work dealer service departments make a good chunk of their money off warranty repairs. Since this is a new vehicle not every tech in the dealership can/should be repairing/diagnosing. All just growing pains for a new vehicle.

New ECU was installed today. 2 Head toyota mechanics came to my local dealership to do the work plus one corporate dude. The dealership completely changed their attitude when these people showed up. Nice to know they are not denying that the ECU in our cars is subject to go bad. So far so good and they are being open and cooperative. Not like before, i was made to feel like a bad ECU was impossible by the service advisor.

That's only partly true, warranty jobs are not paid the same as a non warranty job. Dealership gets less money for a warranty job then they do a job that't not covered by warranty. ie. a warranty job that's rated 2hrs wont get paid as 2hrs maybe like 1 1/2, while the same job not covered by warranty is paid as 2 regardless of how quickly they get it done.

I'm at 2600 miles and this scares me. I get it if it happened immediately but the fact it took a bit is quite frighening.
