Well, to be fair, I did poke around the forum to see if this had been brought up and I missed it.

That said, my post probably will not be the last unless Toyota figures this out quickly.

Also, I am not trying to spread fear or drag the car through the mud. I was extremely excited when my first order came in and you can imagine what it was like when I looked in the window and saw the auto.

If you've lurked long enough into these forums to hear about problems and CEL issues then you should already have seen many happy owners on here as well.

Things like this are very very common with brand brand new cars. !st year early adopters always have to deal with a teething period where all the kinks and bugs get worked out. The car is awesome but if you fear this to the point that it is making you doubt buying the car I would wait until next years model then.

quick example being the 1st gen GTR with their exploding trannys when you lanuch too much

P.S. Its a Toyota built by Subaru so I wouldn't place any value on past Toyota reliability.

EDIT: While I agree that BlaineWasHere went a little nazi on you there I do think new members should not be allowed to post a thread until a certain post count cause the number of repeated threads make me think this is the 1st time any of you have been on a forum. Search... please its not that hard to use

Timeout.

Yeah I have an attitude, but so what? I'll admit I get overly irritated when people don't search and post things in the correct section! BUT without order it's all MADNESS!!!

I'm I an ass? Nope. I'm not calling people names or putting people down! It's nothing personal! I'm sure the OP is a great guy!

My advice to the OP is get the car and purchase extended factory warranty! Toyota has my back for the first 100K miles if anything breaks on the whole flippin car!

there is absolutely no need to be jumping on people because they have a question...once again this is looking like another forum that is going to have a bunch of guys that get their tampons in a bunch just because someone asks a question that's been asked once before....you know it's really easy..if your going to get angry and you don't feel like answering something again...simply just don't view the thread or reply to it. The OP wasn't looking for attitude he was looking for a well guided answer to his situation.

1. I have purchased over a dozen new vehicles between my wife and I over the last 15 years or so. I only buy new. In fact, it is probably more than that because I went on a bit of a tear where I got a new car every 1.5-2 years.

2. I disagree that this degree of failure is common with a new car, at least, not a single one I have ever purchased has had the potential to fail in this manner. In fact, not a single of those cars had ever left me at the side of the road. Also, didn't the majority of those GT-R failures occur because of the user-initiated defeat of the stability control? That is not remotely close to this problem.

3. I have been using forums since late 1998 or so. Never heard of it

I get the point, and will go away now and lurk from now on. Good luck with your 86's!

right but many 'brand new' cars share stuff from the manufacturer's parts bin... so there wont be as many problems

this car is really brand new, engine and tech never used in any other car before; brand new chassis, there will be hiccups.

Also, the impact of the CEL problems is magnified because you are listening to a vocal minority on a internet forum. not to say that the issue shouldn't be corrected or even that it is okay, but most cars aren't having the problem.

at any rate, if you like the concept of the car and what it offers but don't want to deal with first year problems... wait.

I'm sure Subaru/Toyota will be producing the car for years to come. You should be alright unless you are taking the bus or your current ride is spitting oil everywhere, no?

I would say you are very lucky. The GTR issues were due to overheating and them never testing the launch control limit. There was no warning about lanuching your car and it was even recommened to use to save the tranny from abuse when at the track. Nissian ended up limiting the number of lanuches you can do in the next year model.

Here another example of a pretty recent car as well. I choose recent cars as you would think in this day and age we would have no problems but it certainly is not true.

09 Camaro

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/22/c...-your-new-cam/

Or better yet here the brand new 2013 Ford Escape with 3 recalls already.

http://www.autoblog.com/2012/09/05/2...for-fire-risk/

The 2011 Mustang GT (1st gen) also had massive issues as well

Its just that when you look at the data. A brand new car is exactly that brand new. You can do all the testing you want but you won't find out how good the car is until the mass market gets their hand on it. They even did a report about it in Canada here

http://www.globalnews.ca/Pages/story.aspx?id=6442664900

BTW I say get it and gamble with Carma XD

Get the car, drive the car and you will love it. If you by some chance get one of the cars with issues then make your dealer give you a rental.

So tell me again why we need another thread about this please?
People are being too nice I think in a lot of cases on the site. General forum etiquette is to utilize the search function and be flamed if you do not.

Maybe we can say it in a little nicer way than some of us have, but really it is a lot of work for the moderators to merge threads and keep the clutter down.
