because it's a successor to LMP1 but they also want to have street-ish cars to be able to compete in the class.
I didn’t know hypercar was a term used in racing. I always understood it as a vehicle above a production supercar that was a much more expensive and limited production vehicle that was the pinnacle of engineering featuring emerging technologies like the Mclaren F1, Bugatti or Koenigsegg. Thanks for the info.

So we are thinking they will be actually making a production hypercar? Or will this be like Ford, where the powertrain is shared in a supercar/hypercar and in a F150?

basically the class is supposed to be LMP1 and old LM GT1 classes combined into one. they put it together to accommodate some tier 1 auto makers.

Toyota won't make one but other manufacturers will.

I forgot to mention that the first hypercar it was meant to court was the Aston Martin Valkyrie, rules changes were meant to bring cars like this into the category.

But there will probably be further revisions to the rules package, since right now it's just all a bunch of prototypes still.

Remember, this is a public space and talking as if people don't exist while they can see it is a pretty shitty show of character.

It's not like anyone was being personally attacked, he was making a silly post. Laugh and move on.

Oh please... The dude is clearly a bit off, go read his posts which he has been on a tear lately. I can freely state what I want as he has the freedom to post other folks' 86 pics for threads about your own twin. Show of character on the interwebz is an oxymoron..don't be a hypocrite and make this into more of a spectacle, report me if you dislike the post but probably best to go be busy and drive your ctr, better for you than getting into forum drama. And seriously? I didn't start the clown fiesta in this thread, but come at me I guess.

I'm not really sure why anyone would want to buy something that ugly.

Unlike the overused cliche too often applied to regular sportscars or supercars, this is a genuine 'racecar for the road.' If you're rich, and for some bonkers reason (which I totally get) want to drive a full-on LMP style racecar on public roads, well, here's your chance. Edit - assuming Toyota build a limited run of road going versions, which I really hope they do.

It's kinda funny, when I first heard about the GR Super Sport, I had thought it would be a more conventional supercar styled hypercar, but it really looks like they just took their LMP racecar and turned it into a slightly bigger, heavier, and less powerful road car. Respect for that!

They're supposed to build 25 road going versions for homologation purposes but I'll believe it when I see it. Especially since Peugeot has some how found a way around building a road going version of its, yet to be released, LMH entry.

I think it's beautiful, but I was also a huge fan of the old LMP1 cars. The only thing that bothers me is that this new class is going to be much slower. at almost 10seconds slower at Le Mans it would put the in contention with LMP2 class. Not sure how BOP will shake out but right now I'm skeptical. Hopefully the lower costs will truly revive the class and we'll see some good entries.

Introduction of LMDh in 2022 will be the real test. With Audi and Porsche both choosing this route we'll see if other manufacturers will want to continue development of bespoke chassis vs off the shelf base cars from a prototype OEM.
