I feel like we don't have the whole story. For a professional shop to not know how to obtain such a generic part is unthinkable. Measure the damn hole and plug it.

Did that at multiple machine shops.
Tried Subaru tried Toyota no help in parts

IF it's a "freeze plug", I doubt it would be threaded - having a threaded freeze plug would defeat it's purpose - would it not - ?

Honestly, that angle did not look familiar to me either. If you left the cam plate on it would have been instantly recognized..
