Just like a hydraulic rack the steering column is directly connected to the rack. It's just a motor that does the assist rather than hydraulics. Typically what gives a car a disconnected feeling is too much assist and/or soft bushings in the rack and suspension. The Twins have a fair bit of assist. I've replaced the rack bushing on past cars with solid bushings and it made a world of difference. I agree the Twins have a lack of feel. Not the worst but not on par with some other sports cars. I hope I don't get in trouble to being critical.

I have a really good metric for comparison of the electric steering vs. hydraulic. My other vehicle is an STI, which has exactly the same 13.2:1 turn ratio but being an STI, one of the unique features of STI's is that they still feature hydraulic assist. I'd say I like the steering equally. My only gripe is grip! The steering wheel on the FR-S after 6 years and 58,000 km didn't feel as grippy as I'd like on the track last weekend. It looks fine but the leather is pretty sealed from hand sweat and gets slippery. I wonder if there is an acceptable wrap?

As per others the 86 is not steer by wire.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drive_...#Steer_by_wire I find the difference negligible between this and a good hydraulic rack like in the NC Miata. It is worlds better than most hydraulic steering racks on the road today. Infiniti Q50 Edit: Derp, too late, sorry for the repeated information. Quote:
Leather cleaner, I've got a bottle of leatherique and my car is in desperate need of re-application. Leather shouldn't be slippery and shiny, that's dirt and skin oil sitting on top of the material that needs to be cleaned off. |

How about a pair of gloves? I know it sounds silly but I got a pair for simracing because my wheel is suede and was destroying my hands. I ended up using the gloves at autox too and it helps a lot on hot Florida days. |
