Technically, yes. But you'll be much better off with a 225/45 or 235/40. The 215 will be more stretched, which isn't ideal for grip or tire life.

Thanks everyone. I think i'm going to go with a 225/45/17 square setup with hankook ventus v12 evo2 with 17x8 wheels.

Big question is what are you going to do w that tire? Just for daily? Maybe doing some autox? Or track? Maybe have some fun at the canyon? Or just simple cruise? Are going to sacrifice road noise for traction? (or vice versa) Cuz if you gonna do autox/track, some classes require specific tw (in SCCA anyways), so you might not want to go under that. If you want some quiet tires, you might want to look into different tires than others have recommended. What's your plan for future mods? Specially within 6months to a year.
Without knowing all those things, there's no such thing as a "Good summer tires". Because everyone have different terms of "Good summer tires" |

Exactly! Wants/needs/usage envelope will determine what the "best" tire is for you.
For 17x8, I think 225/45-17 is likely to be the "best" tire size, but either 215/45-17 or 235/40-17 could work, too. Wouldn't go 235/45-17 due to weight and diameter... |

I currently run Ventus v12 evo2s on the street and am not terribly impressed with them. Wet performance is just mediocre and dry performance is decent for the street (though nothing to rave about). I plan to replace them with Conti Extreme Contact Sports. I had Extreme Contact DW previously and thought they were a fantastic tire for the price. Excellent wet performance, dry performance easily as good as the V12s, super quiet, and a higher TW rating. Plus they're about the lightest tire in a given size you'll find. Just more to think about...lol.

Yeah OP never gave us any info which would help. "Best" could just as easily mean 205 Hoosiers on 17" x 8". For the record I run 215/45/17 Michelin Pilot Super Sports on stock wheels as my commuter tires because Master Race Michelin.

if you want good sticky tires that have decent tread life, id personally go with the Michelin Pilot Super Sport or the new Sport 4s. Best summer performance tire for the money in my opinion. Unless you want to spend a bit more and go for the Pilot Sport Cup 2's but thats overkill for daily use.
