Forgive my exhaust, if you listen carefully you'll hear the heatshield rattle.

Hmmm. I hear it but not quite. Yours sounds like there’s metal grit being tossed around or something.

Check it my video post #7 on the first page. Sounds like a lathe.

If it is the TOB you shouldn't really hear much when it is engaged. The noise is much worse at idle and should come and go (or at least change sounds) when pushing the pedal.
In the list of mods you say "etc". Are any exhaust related?

Doesn't sound anything like any TOB sound I've ever heard.

When my TOB went it was more the squealing and the "water through a copper pipe" type sound that I experienced. Nothing even remotely similar to this.

This to me sounds like something metallic vibrating against something else metallic, so I'm gonna jump on the heat shield bandwagon as well.

Good luck!

Won't let me quote you.

OK so the front pipe was changed. I would start my search with the heat shield on the far left of the picture. The one over the cat.

Hmmm. Going to look tonight. Front pipe has been on there for 1.5 years. But very possible.

Try the test that I suggested. Pulling the fork forward completely disengages the TOB. You may need to pump the clutch pedal a couple times to send fluid back to the slave cylinder.

Your deli machine comment has me triple-guessing. Does the sound change when you tap the clutch pedal?

UPDATE:

Just drove home, did a rather thorough inspection. No noise whatsoever ever.

Clutch in/out. Nothing.
Pulleys, slight hissing. Normal.
Exhaust components, nothing visibly rubbing.

If it WAS the TOB it would be persistent no?

Yes, TOB failure ends badly 100% of the time. It can be a long road but it doesn't get better.

Meh. Give it time. It'll come back.

I heard my tob going out at 40k lasted well into 80k but like said before when it goes out it goes out bad. So who knows? Video scoop it. At lest to make sure, well visually anyway.

UPDATE:

Noise came back, clutch modulation does nothing. Noise changes based on RPM and can be modulated in that way. From my past Audio experience this tells me something is rubbing/rattling.

I’ll bet $10 it’s a nut/bolt on the skid plate and I have just wasted all of your time.

Oh, well. It's common, especially when the not-a-skid plate starts coming loose. It's a new sound for me so I'm curious to hear what it turns out to be.

Would've just wasted my time here anyhow.
