Metal scraping sound at idle

Anyone ever experience this sort of issue or can lead me in the right direction as to what I’m hearing? Sounds like a metal scraping sound.

Car is 2013 BRZ with 60,XXXKm on it. Stock clutch and components. Only bolt ons including intake, oil cooler, OCC, etc.

If it is while you are moving slowly you notice the sound.
check your brake pads, there is a squeeeeler on some to let you know they are done.

Nope. Just did my pads 2 months ago.

I took a video of the noise, tapatalk wont let upload for some reason.

But I hear it at idle while parked. And it even kind of whines on throttle. Hard to tell if modulating the clutch is changing anything because my exhaust is so loud. But I’m beginning to believe it’s the TOB.

hmmm....... could be a bad TOB.

Could be a pulley going bad or the AC clutch.

I'd suggest check the pulleys by placing a rod next to the pulley and your ear at the other end to see if you can isolate the sound.

It's an odd one for sure. I'm skeptical about the TOB but I've been wrong.

Test it by pulling the clutch fork forward by hand just a little while it's making the sound. Wear gloves for comfort in case it's hot but don't worry. It won't be any worse than McDonalds coffee.

Another vote for the Throw out bearing.
Sounds like mine right before it died.

If you have a buddy with a video scoop you could peek in side and confirm. An old machinist buddy of mine just told me about that trick. Of course after the fact I told him about my throw out bearing ordeal.

Yep. Now that I hear it I am retracting my vote for TOB. I don't have a bloody clue what that one is. If forced to make a call I now change to heat shield.

Hmm. I’m going to have a look at everyone’s suggestions after work. Thank you all for the help.

Hopefully it is just a head shield or even a pulley. Clutch Components + downtime just aren’t in the budget right now. However it sounds like a deli machine being sharpened going down the road. Which leads me to believe it has something to do with clutch components. It’s the only metal on metal thing I can think of that could possibly make a sound like that from that region of where I’m hearing it.

We shall see! Snow tires go on tomorrow so I may have the mechanic just take a quick peek.

Thank god Black Friday is this week. Lol
