No, the '17s don't assist the diff anymore with the brakes. Brake assist "helps make sure maximum pressure is applied to the brakes as quickly as possible in an emergency situation."

It's basically a progressive curve on your brake pressure. It's not an active system nor a system that can be turned off or altered. It's also nothing you'll notice, especially autocrossing.

I just tested flooring the throttle while rolling at 30mph (at 3000rpm approx), and then moderatly pressing the brake, and like you, no fuel cut. And I kept all stability control fully active.
That's strange, I'm sure I read it in the manual or something.
Maybe it's only when you press the brake really hard, like in an emergency situation.
Anyway I'm kinda glad, less nannies make me happy

There is no brake override system on the BRZ. It's on other Subarus to prevent accidental acceleration but it's not on BRZ, WRX/STI.

Not to contradict you, because you may be right, but here is an excerpt from page 166-167 of the 2017 manual:

If the accelerator and brake pedals are depressed at the same time, driving
torque may be restrained. This is not a malfunction.

Of course they could be stating the obvious (when pressing the brake the car will accelerate less...DUH!! ). But some people, me included, deduced that meant that engine torque is reduced. Of course the test that Justin did, and also mine, suggest there is no override.
