I pm'd a Subaru tech in another forum regarding installation as shown above and this is what he had to say...

Actually, this setup with a catch can is not functional, because the left hose is routed back to the intake, therefore some vacuum is always present in the can. The crankcase vapors would not have anytime to settle in the can before they are sucked back into the engine. This setup would be similar to air/oil seperator configuration. On mine the left hose is exposed to atmospheric pressure and since the fitting is on the top side of the can, it allows the vapors to be isolated to the catch can and settle.
This is how he installed the catch can...

So that catch can only has two lines? If that's the case and both are running to the PVC I foresee some major issues coming. The catch can has to vent, either to the intake or atmosphere. I would steer clear of the Cusco can.

Also wanted to add that cusco can is meant to go on a one hose PVC system, it goes in between the intake and the Pcv valve.

The install is wrong. If you want to catch PCV blow by you need to connect it to the PCV valve and the intake manifold. Not the breather tube to the intake.

You can see the PCV valve hose here and the intake manifold hose in this picture running to the radium can.

So what about catching the oil coming out of the front Pcv hose? Is everyone forgetting it? That is a closed catch can, meaning it must attached to the intake side via either the intake manifold port where the Pcv hose used to go or the front intake port to relieve the internal engine pressure that builds up. With that being said, the cusco can cannot do this, it's a either or situation. You will only be able to catch oil from one line, but oil will travel from both! At this point all that can can do is shine in the engine bay. Your going to et what you pay for with that one.

And I hope no one gets the idea to tag both lines in one port in order to achieve this as you would drop each Pcv port on the engine to under .250" of breathing ability.

Hey, post #17 shows a pic of how I believe the unit should be installed to be somewhat functional. Others have installed it differently to pass track regulations.

Some will argue that the Cusco catch can is useless period and non-functional at all by design

But that wasn't your question, so hopefully we won't get a bunch of haters posting useless comments

On a note of functionality .. it would seem that pending you're running the 2nd hose atmospheric .. it does its job just fine.
