Make sure you get the updated version. The older versions were known to leak

If you get a 2017 manual BRZ, remember Jackson Racing oil cooler will not clear the air box.

I know I'm Reviving a dead old thread. But I am tracking the car this year. What are your thoughts now on the oil cooler kits that are out there. Or what about this one?

Just get the correctly-sized traditional Jackson and call it a day.

You literally just bumped another thread that literally discussed those options for you and then some...
Guess I ended up reading the thread for you because the DIT kit is good enough for spirited driving on NA power, not track. Here's the first thing that comes up on google. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93127 The poster of the Maximal kit said it was decent enough for NA tracking and even posted a datalog of it. Said you should go heavier duty on cooling if FI, which you stated you had. Everyone else more or less pointed to Jackson, RacerX, and Mishimoto. With the assumption you want "best bang for buck" as the parameter for "BETTER" just get a heavier duty oil cooler from any of those mentioned options since you're on forced induction dude, which means more heat and more potential for damage on the engine without adequate cooling. That, purportedly, neither the DIT nor Maximal can provide for FI. It's not rocket science. You put thousands of dollars into an engine and car, why skimp on merely one of the most important aspects of vehicle protection and maintenance? |

You could send oil sample to Blackstone, run a track event or two without a cooler, then send another sample and see if oil is still ok and if there excess of bearing material or other particulates indicating undue wear. If all is OK with 2nd sample, maybe no oil cooler needed...
Full credit to Bonburner for this straight-to-the-bloody-point easily implemented ideer, see post #56 from this thread: https://www.ft86club.com/forums/show...=132041&page=4 Last edited by ZDan; 01-19-2019 at 06:14 PM. |

The OEM Forester XT oil cooler is only marginally better than no oil cooler. I would not bother. It's only on the turbo Subaru cars to decrease the oil warm up times.
How often are you planning to track your car and what's your experience level? You might be able to get away with no cooler if you're only going to see the track 1-2 times a year and have little to no track experience. Running a proper oil cooler, such as the Jackson cooler, just means your oil is going to take a long time to reach operating temp in the winter, and you'll have additional points of failures. |

I have five events already scheduled this year, and looking to add possibly three or four more. again, I'm not going with the Jackson Racing one. I've already looked into the fact of getting oil coolers. But one that has a thermostatic switch. The other thing is I put my car away from November 15th to February 15th every year
Located in central Pennsylvania so it doesn't get super cold when I am driving the car |
