My crickets go away for 6 months of the year since it isn't warm enough for them. Since I assume it is still cool in NJ right now we will need to wait and see how well the additives work in July and August.

I sometimes drive my car and the crickets are gone. I wonder what happens to them

In all reality if I don't hear them I'm wondering if there is something wrong, lol. I have tried literally every gas station's premium trying to find one that works and none seem to be consistent so.... I just live with them. It is only really bad if I'm in a drive thru.

I used that stuff for about a year with no ill effect, I gave up on spending money on it as it was not 100% effective but sure did help.

Now my fix for crickets seems to be keeping oil temps at around 190F I am not sure why or what is going on but if I keep the oil 190F there are 0 crickets, then I will drive really hard brings oil temps up crickets come (only slightly though) then the oil cooler cools the oil and they seem to go away again. Just my quick non scientific findings lol.

The oil temp does affect the cricket noise. I think the oiling of the pump could not be sufficient at lower rpms

Yeah I wonder about those guys that use 5W-30 if it makes a difference for them? They are going to have higher pressures then the with 0W-20

Not that it would help, it may, my thinking is insufficient oil galleys to deliver the oil to the pump innards.

I've been able to rid the engine bay of crickets by running non-ethanol gas as well. It's not always available to me as it's a long drive to that station, but it seems to consistently fix the issue. Crickets come back a while after putting E10 back in the tank. They're usually gone within 50 miles of refilling on straight gas.

I don't know if ethanol-free is available in NJ but if it is you might give it a try.
Interesting, I had about a 1/4 tank of fuel when i bought the car and the dealer didn't put any fuel in it per my instructions, so it had Japanese gas in it. If Japanese gas is Ethenol free that would explain why I had no crickets the first few tank fulls. Could be Ethenol is the culprit. I wouldn't doubt it.

Also after the 2nd tak of fuel without the gas treatment the crickets have returned so even more evidence that there are less fuel system lubricant(s) in US fuel.??

Just cracked 10k and have never heard crickets in my MY15. Always been filling up with ethanol free premium 98 from Caltex in AU.

Hmmm, maybe another thread has discovered this but it seems to be clearer it's a missing ingredient in American/Ethanol fuels.

It seems that Japan primarily uses ethanol free gas as the majority of their vehicles are not designed for ethanol. In places that do use ethanol, it's only E3.

Even though this is from 2006, it does mention that the majority of japanese cars will not use ethanol until around 2030. http://www.nbcnews.com/id/13610746/n...n-ethanol-gas/

Also in Japan they also use bio-ETBE blended gasoline which is an ethanol blend made from ethanol and isobutylene. ETBE gas is more compatible with cars not really designed to run on ethanol and is a better burning fuel.
http://www.agrochart.com/en/news/new...nual-jul-2014/

Crickets could very well be caused by ethanol or by the type of additives present in certain gasolines. What would be interesting is another poll that breaks things down by country or region. Of the people stating they don't have crickets, what country are they from? I don't have crickets but am lucky enough to have a 93 octane ethanol free gas station not far from here.

It would be nice to narrow the poll down to determine what additives or lack of additives contribute to crickets. Since some people don't have a problem with them, it seems to me that making them go away permanently is at least possible.

Ethanol may or may not be the culprit. It could also be blending agents used to get ethanol, which is water compatible, to blend with gasoline which is oil. Oil and water don't mix so they have to use additives and those could also be causing the issue. I also wonder if people running E85 have crickets. If someone running e85 doesn't have them then it could very well be the blending agents and not the ethanol itself.

There is no mystery on this topic. Just people that chose to ignore the 1,000s of data points and blatantly obvious trend lines that have been presented on this forum repeatedly.
Crickets are the HPFP not able to deal with ethanol (or as Sly so wisely pointed out the additives included with ethanol) and high temperatures.
This has been presented and proven out so many times that it is ridiculous this discussion is still going on.
If using ethanol fuel when it is warm out you will have crickets, end of fucking story.
