you cannot compare these cars to some thing that is around 2700

an EVO X is you in your FT86 with FOUR of your mates.. (one in the trunk)

you really have to take your car to the track to understand what kind of an effect a ~500lb weight advantage has on your laptimes compared to 100hp of power difference.

uh huh. I think people on here drank too much of the toyota kool-aid.

those tests were done on OEM tires, the biggest variable of them all.

lol what ever makes you sleep at night. Not saying that tires don't matter. But if you honestly think if you gave all those cars these wheel width and weight along with same tire brand that some how it will all drastically change it wouldn't.

They tested the GTR on all season and summer tires and the difference was 3.4 seconds. The ZR1 was tested on street tires and on semi-slicks and the difference was 1.1 seconds. I think there are other variables that are a lot bigger than that.

The Miata and 86 will do fine in tight sections, but just about every car out there will take them on straight, high speed sections. I will take a car that is fun to drive and gets slower lap times over a car that gets fast lap times but is a bloated pig any day.
+1

Last time I check lap times are numbers. And I heard a big fat rumour that this car was not built to produce impressive numbers...

Sorry, I just don't see it working out properly. Care to clarify?
as was noted it was a proofreading error. HP = Tq*rpm/5252 or Tq = Hp*5252/rpm.

Can't buy a sports car and expect the engine to be tuned for low rpm, that's called a truck/SUV :P The beauty of compromise: sometimes you get something good out of it as a side effect.

Matador, may I direct you to the Engine Tech thread?
Damn, he's the inspiration for me starting that thread. Argument about how 5 valve heads are over-rated (my opinion) or pure glory (other people's opinion).

Given my previous 'missing torque crusade', damn skippy 160+ crank is hiding in there somewhere! May have to play with some headers and AVCS timing to find it, but it's there dammit!

I agree. You are right.
That's mid-life realization. God willing you will be there one day and then you will know the difference. Those expensive sports we would have all bought when we were younger if we could have afforded them then. Would you really rather have an FR-S/BRZ or Corvette ZR1,Ferrari etc? I'll bet on the latter.

15% drivetrain loss. That's very impressive, even less than the 370Z. Although i wonder what's going on with the torque dip around 3200-4500 rpm

Yeah I wonder about that dip too. First time I looked at the power curve (just HP) seemed decently linear so a flat-ish torque curve was expected. Must be something with the cam/valve timing around that rev range.

i think this car will be fine against its competition. only losing on the outright speed and size. but it does have a distinctive and unique look. these days mustangs clog the roads (southern states)

i think anyone interested in serious power, will just do a engine swap it will quick and reliable power, until the current FRS engine gets developed for FI or heavy modification

Its because of switching from direct injection to indirect injection around those rpm

ok for 200hp / 170rwhp, but what about the torque?
