Just wondering if you ever thought of replacing those small nuts and bolts to aluminum or titanium (example, those bolts on the pics)? Yeah, those small nuts and bolts don't weight much... but in the long run when you swapping out w lighter parts, it might add up.

![]() There are kits to replace the engine bay bolts to titanium but were talking $300-$500 and you may be lucky to get 2lbs out of it. Would save more weight by possibly hole sawing some of the inside of the door hidden by the interior panel. Speaking of the interior door panels are 6.25lbs, If someone could make them in dry carbon and cut the weight inhalf ![]() Didn't weight but also buying some polycarbonate to replace that little corner window. Wouldn't do the main windows as this is still a DD car in winter conditions. Thought of also using aluminum rivets in place of the bolts on the car as well, but I find my self removing and replacing things quite often would be a pain to have to drill out rivets all the time. Just ideas... |

The ac switch in some of my old stripped out cars was used as AC (additional cooling) for when got a bit hot or on cool down laps.
The ac fans were left in place and only activated when I hit the button. Worked quite well to bring temps back down after flogging the hell out of them. Easier than using a plug in industrial type fan in the pits

I stripped the hell out of that thing, it was a NB so I pulled the PS and welded up my rack, lots of weight loss there too. Shortened bolts, removed brackets, fully stripped interior, no deadening anywhere, lots of hole saw "speed holes" everywhere, removed all airbags, radio and a heap of redundant wiring. Then I caged it which put alot of weight back in, it needed a cage anyway, and with fixed seats, Sparco Sprint V, and harnesses it was a safety requirement anyway. Plus the 2kg for the fire extinguisher. Plus I binned the soft top in favour of a hard top, that added another 2 or 3 kg. That thing only weighed about 950ish kg in the end, even though it only had about 90 kw ATW NA powers it was big fun and punched well above its weight on tight tracks. It was noisy and hot during daily duties though. I once drove it from Sydney to Queensland for a club event, 2000 km round trip, that was a horred experience. I cannot imagine what a 86 would be like with full added lightness, the things are noisy as hell with full trim as they stand from factory.

If you block the trunk opening it isn't bad. Even without that I don't think it is too bad. I just turn the music up.

Yeah with the stock deadening out I don't notice a huge sound difference. Keeping the stock carpet in and my rear seat delete with wall keeps things civil. Sound waves can still bounce off that lightweight coroplast wall. If the rear seat wall is left open then yeah the sound from the rear is going to blast all the way through I listen to sportstalk radio in the morning with no problem and not blasted In conclusion there are smart ways to lose weight without loosing civility in a daily driver. That's what my build is all about Ripping everything out is fine if you are only driving on the track |

Its very loud inside the car. Thankfully the helmet reduces the sound quite a bit, otherwise I'd be wearing earplugs everywhere (sometimes I do when taking it out or back into the trailer).

Is the door panel armrest removable? The door panel on my old M3 was attached with bolts and felt like it weighed a few lbs. You could potentially remove the armrest, cut out the thicker plastic that supports it in the door panel, then plug it with a lightweight panel covered in alcantara or similar.
