Wow, I'm surprised how strongly the AT camp feels about their cars and how defensive the MT folks are! Usually it's the other way around!

Let's face it, the cars are wonderful either way and whichever tranny helps you to enjoy it more is the best one for you. I can understand getting an AT- for some people with certain restrictions (medical/spouse/can't drive stick) it allows them to get into a car like the BRZ/FR-S instead of buying an AT Mustang!

I will say one advantage of the MT is it's almost 50lbs lighter. Although for a lot of people this may not be much of an issue.

The Aisin AT is a great tranny and is a little slower 0-60 than the MT. I suspect in the hands of an expert will probably be a little slower around a track as well. Although for less experienced track drivers the AT is a good idea- it allows you to focus more on cornering and braking zones.

But lets face it, it's no F1 gearbox. Yes Ferrari does not make an MT anymore, and even Porsche is rumored to be putting their PDK (sequential auto-manual) in their vaunted next gen 991 GT3 because they really are faster, even in the hands of a professional. We cannot shift as fast as these new transmissions. Not even close.

But if we're not racing, does a few tenths make a difference around the track? It's the fun aspect of these cars that's appealing. If you want something really fast this isn't it. And even a lot of these Ferrari guys wish they could get an MT and Porsche guys buy the MT, even though it's SLOWER. Because they think it's more fun to work 3 pedals. But that's just one's own opinion.

So shift yourself or let the computer shift, but have fun driving! No need to personally attack each other simply because of their choices.

I went for a nice drive with Wife this morning on a nice rural semi twisty route 18 in my neck of woods. Left car in automatic for way out, to let her feel normal, and it was a nice windows down breezy roll. Then on way back I used the paddleshifters, downshifting to peak power up out of tight hill turns and put some acceleration in here and there... bottom line, just plain fun. It is perfect for me. This car is fun to drive in with either transmission.
The one thing I have noticed several times is in a tight turn, can not use paddleshifters, must use the shifter in first to second and maybe to 3rd depending on grade and radius. No big deal

AMEN!!

Back on topic

For track i actually prefer paddle shift since thats what im really used to. Plus both hands on the wheel at all times = better lines and faster times i think hahahaha

Is read the rumor about the pdk being in the next gt3. I hope porsche is smart enough to make a standard manual an option. All of the people I know and have talked to with gt3's in my area want nothing to do with a pdk gt3 even though it's faster.

I think Porsche makes enough cars to be able to do both options. The 7 speed manual for 'purists' and the PDK for the racers.

I hope to own a GT3 at some point soon in my life. Oh, and it will hopefully be a 7 speed MT.

A manual transmission is like being one with the horse while an automatic is like being laid back, smelling the roses. Nothing wrong with either one.

Ahaha, sorry but thats the last reason and you never admit to it. FR-S MT; because it doesn't have a heavy clutch and a true sports car should only come in manual.

for a "so called "troll" wannabe you got a lot to learn! ehe he! he! if you don't '"ride" the
clutch, and fully release the clutch as you shift ,you will never have to be concerned about
premature wear! the only wearing part over time is the "throw-out" bearing, however given a quality bearing when the clutch was built should last for a very long time."double 'clutching" will have a tendency to put additional wear on that bearing and shorten it's usable life. your statement of causing premature wear if one DOESN'T "rev match"?..i'm sorry i just do not see the logic of that.if you are simply engaging, and disengaging the clutch properly when you shift in to each gear, you should NOT be experiencing any additional wear to the "throw-out" bearing, which as previously stated
is really the only wearing part over time you have to be concerned about!
