We will see. Upside is I can probably find an Exedy OEM clutch disk / pressure plate locally tomorrow and get rid of the Sachs time bomb at the same time. Yeah, it was. I figured it was part of an inner hub, but looking at it again I am probably wrong. Maybe they could be part of where the 4th gear circlip is (and replaced with a collar on this)? I dunno, we will see. May as well open this one up like I did the last one I blew up since they're just paperweights.

I pulled the transmission with the engine in. It was a pain. I had to clearance the mount brackets to drop it down, but essentially the engine and trans needs to be angled down to be removed. It wasn’t easy. It took a lot of finagling, but it is possible.

It was pretty easy to get the transmission out of the car, the slave cylinder just sucked to deal with. I loosened off the motor mount nuts top and bottom, jacked up the front of the motor via the pan, and the transmission basically fell off the car on top of me.
My Sachs pressure plate looks fine, but pulled it anyway based on the failure pictures I've seen. It seems like the rivets that attach the friction surface strap to the pressure plate come loose and it tears everything up.

I thought the Sachs clutch setup was what Kpower recommended? Has there been a bunch of failures? I'm on stock Exedy so not worried but kinda surprised considering the difference in cost is fairly large.

I bought mine from a race shop in Germany, so it was a lot cheaper than what KPower was asking for them. Either way, there aren't a ton of these things being run and I figured the dots lined up in favor of getting rid of it since I already have the transmission off. I opted for an OEM Exedy this time around too, I am hoping it reduces some of the shock load on the transmission.

I'm happy with the stock clutch. Until I was supercharged and starting to slip on my previous car it held up super well. Pretty sure the Exedy torque threshold is still higher than what my planned built motor would put out. I do hear more chatter with this swap than I think I ever had with the fa20 though. Not loud but noticeable when in a drive through with the way the sound bounces off a building. |

So some of you are running the OEM(exedy) clutch and pressure plate without issues? I didn't figure it would hold the extra torque.

I’ve read from reputable sources it will hold until around 230 torque. I think above that threshold is possible but that’s based on how my supercharged setup did under certain conditions.

I run the exedy 3 puck. It's been great for me. My car is mainly just a daily driver, with the occasional back road beating. Stock k24a2 so I'm probably not putting it under much stress.

That boot thing happened to me with the Harrop/Ace A350/E85/FA20, I'll watch the new one I just put on.
Car is all back together, trans feels like butter, clutch feels super smooth and easy to drive. We will see if it holds up, put like 5 miles on it then right on the trailer for Chuckwalla on Sat/Sun this weekend. Transmission mated to the motor right away first attempt, no idea how I got so lucky. I learned that the slave should be installed/removed with the motor / trans bolted down, rather than trying when it is tilted for removal.

Yeah, that's actually why I was concerned. I'd love to use the oem clutch as it's very economical.
