Well, here's a great example of the inherent flaw of public forums - every douchebag around is free to hop in and crap all over the place. They could be a great place to consolidate and exchange info, but instead they're full of keyboard mechanics who spend their time trying to come up with reasons to shoot ideas down because it's never been done before. Sorta like LS swaps used to be. Or putting boost into a 12.5:1 motor. You guys all sound like Mercedes owners... lol

Motec is turn-key, if you can write very very basic code, or pay someone else to... There are people who code Motec for both this platform and Honda.
Somebody configured the Haltech Elite CAN stream to run the factory tach for a 1J swap.

See, I knew you could do it! Sharing info without having to sound like a hemorrhoidal ****head.

IDK man, everyone has advocated LS swaps since 97.... it is a motor people wanted in their car.

Plus they're cheap, reliable, fairly easy to obtain, etc etc etc. With factory crate engine "swap kits" it is easy to see why it is so popular.

I was referring specifically to an LS being swapped into the 86 chassis.

Dude, people swapped an LS in this chassis like three weeks after the platform dropped. Remember the BRZ06? I seriously think a magazine article was published about 6 months after the car was available to the public.

Dude. Reading through this you are getting perfectly innocent responses and then freaking out. There are reasons why people are saying it isn't a good idea but you just ignore them and then shit all over the posters. You are not consolidating info you are looking for support for your preconceived notions and when it isn't there you try to force it in anyway.
You are getting douche comments because you are being a huge douche yourself simple as that. I bet if you calm down and actually listen to what people have to say this would go much better.

So I hope you take the time to read this very nice post and we just cut out being mad.

I was an ASE certified mechanic.
Cnc machinist and CAD designer.
Been wrenching on honda v6 motors since I was 17.
I knew at one time every valve dia. spec and bearing journal size by memory on honda v6s.
I know which honda v6's use other honda parts(honda ridgeline anyone) BEFORE anyone made posts on the internet.
I came up with a piston swap before honda even released the motor on one instance.

I did swaps other keyboard mechanics said couldn't work. Guess what. It did and made the power I said it would and being reliable. This is not to brag but to tell you that when even I say you should look at more cost effective solutions you should take my advice as well as others here. If you want to do the swap to be "cool" , go ahead while we all laugh because we know in fact you paid someone to do it for you anyways(this is targeted at people that do this very thing for magazine shoots).

People haven't taken my advice before, and guess what...it DID NOT turn out well.

Sincerely,
Ben

PS- SO before careful before labeling everyone keyboard mechanics young padiwan.

Swaps are rarely done for cost effectiveness. They're done because someone wants a particular 'thing' and the only way to get it is to make it themselves.

I'm not going to get pulled into an internet **** waving contest regarding experience, all I'm going to say is swaps are not new to me, whatsoever. The purpose of this thread was to gather any available info regarding the components that will be used but instead it's become a shitfest for every douche out there to offer 'information' because they know someone who read about trying to swap a different motor once, but it's really the same thing to them for whatever reason. There have been like 3 people in this thread who've supplied REAL info - the rest has been nothing but conjecture, at best, and trolling more often than not. Don't want a Honda motor in an 86? Move along please - you don't belong in this thread.

There have been three people that said what you want to hear. About 90% of what you have said is also conjecture. It is the nature of the subject that much will be conjecture until it is actually done. You have not yet done so there is no facts to be had yet (the fact it goes into a Miata is meaningless in tis thread). You asked a question on a public forum and the public will respond whether you like it or not. You want everybody to stop telling you it is a bad idea then simply do it and shut them up. If you can't find the info you need to actually do it then you should take that as a hint and start a new plan.

Don't know why I would. I haven't attacked him or called him anything derogatory, even though he's spent the entire thread attacking other people because they're not giving him congratulatory blowjobs for his brilliant idea.

Yeah, I'm the one doing the attacking...lol. If what I've said in response to the utter garbage on here makes you feel like you're being attacked, then you need to harden up a bit.

BTW, I never recall asking anyone's opinion as to whether they think this would be a good idea. I'm not interested in what your opinions are, frankly. All I asked for was for info pertaining to the swap. Info, not opinions. If you don't have info related to this, then you don't belong here.
