I'm curious as to how many people hate on the GTR have actually driven one. I feel like most people who sit there and say there's no connection have never actually driven it and they're just restating what they heard/read in a review.

I've driven a few of the older ones: 2010 stock, 2009 with 630ish awhp. Loads of fun to drive. You don't need to do 150 to have fun with it. Just that short burst of throttle up to 60-70mph is enough to get a good laugh.

My Dad just got a 2015 GTR a couple weeks ago. He loves it. He's owned more cars than I can remember: Datsun 240s, MKIV Supras, R34 GTR, M3, RS4, multiple Lamborghini's, 911 Turbo etc etc etc.

I find the GTRs to be amazing examples of highly engineered machines.

No manual transmission makes me not give a shit about owning one. Sorry, it's a requirement as I *enjoy* driving manual transmission vehicles. I've been in (and have driven) GTRs. They can be insane. I still don't want one, but I won't slam it besides the transmission and this....

I can respect that.

I like the looks of the car but it's not my favorite looking car for sure. I love the dual clutch transmission in it too but a manual transmission option would have been cool. To stay competitive and keep those acceleration times down, I doubt they'll offer a manual for the GTR.

Oh well.

I'd check out the Top Gear review where Clarkson nearly breaks his neck in one.
I love when someone comments about a car when they have no experience with one..

The ride is not comfortable, it's about on par if not a bit worse than the 86. The interior has nicer materials but that's expected for a 90k+ car.

I would not kick a GT-R out of my garage, but I would not spend 100 large for one either. The GT-R is just way too damn long, heavy, and ugly. If I didn't need the rear seats, I'd probably be driving a Cayman, Exige, or Vette. Really, probably a Cayman S. And I'd struggle with manual vs PDK. Sad thing is, since I have the FR-S, I don't think my wife will let me get anything else anytime soon. Priorities are a pain.

I'd like a GT-R...not an R35 though:

Does anyone else think the gtr is overkill on the streets? I mean, yes, you'll win every stop-light drag race, but who cares? Keep your 86 and stop worrying about street racing.

If you really do want something with more oommf, a friend of mine has a 13 gt500. Surprisingly comfortable, will reliably make 1000 whp, and is very quiet on the highway (75 mph = 1500 rpm). I'm sure you won't even consider it, but you should. I've never liked mustangs, but that car is really impressive.

Yes. However, it does have a sense of occasion that most cars do not have under $70K (except used exotics). Just a pure joy to drive.

I was glad to get back into my FR-S and go slow after 24hrs in one though...

To be fair, a GT-R isn't exactly under $70k though...

How much did you drive it without flooring it?

I honestly didn't find it very engaging.. it's awesome when floored though.

Used it is, and for shopping purchases I think that is a fair range. At that price, there are many options to toy around with.

I am lucky to live nearby the Santa Cruz hills, Skyline Blvd and HWY1. These roads really are some of the best in the nation for diving with tight twisties, expansive open turns and pristine straights along the Pacific Ocean.

The GTR performs with such ease that you have to either be accelerating or turning hard to enjoy it. I very much enjoyed having the car for 24hrs and would take that experience again in a heartbeat. Would I purchase a new or used one, probably not. In that price range I can find something that provides the same sense of occasion, similar performance, and more thrill.

Honestly, an FR-S is overkill for the streets. Anything but a Prius, a 4-cylinder minivan, or a pickup is overkill. None of these cars are about need. It's easy to far exceed the speed limit in an FR-S. It's easy to far exceed the limit in a Prius or Yaris.

In other words, overkill isn't an issue. A big, fat, long car on a twisty road with oncoming traffic and no shoulder? I'll take the shorter, narrower, lighter FR-S for daily driving. If I lived my driving life on a series of mile-long drag strips, I'd get a 911 Turbo, Vette, Viper, or GT-R.

You don't need a drag strip to enjoy a Turbo, Vette, Viper or GTR. There's more to cars you've never driven.

Sure, the GTR blends into traffic, but when your run of the mill commuter car brand makes a car like that...it's incredibly impressive.

It's not just a feat of engineering , but a feat of the right minds, genius.
