Just researching oil coolers and had some Qs on this:
Any A&B, before and after (without and with oil cooler), graphs/dynos/charts, of this oil cooler on the track? (oil temps, water temps, etc.) Would love to see how much it helps on the track. |

Personally I have tested it on a track alongside a stock cooling BRZ, I (with cooler) saw no temperatures over 103 C during a 20 minute session, the BRZ without a cooler saw as high as low-mid 130s. We were running at the same pace in the same ambient conditions.

I concur with his statement only I use Fahrenheit, although I can't spell it without the spell check built into Google Chrome. With the oil cooler you'll have normal driving conditions of 20 degrees less when moving (freeways or roads 35mph+) and on the track you'll see up to 30 degrees less.

I bought a Perrin oil cooler used from a local club member and am having a little bit of seepage from one of the fittings on the cooler, as well as the fittings on the thermostat. Any advice? I've tried to re-tighten the offending fittings without much luck. Is some seepage expected in the first week?
Probably 1/8 of a drop on the cooler side and maybe a drop or two from the thermostat side every 40 miles. Kit has black Mocal cooler. Last edited by kodyo; 01-29-2015 at 12:04 AM. |

When you first do the install, there will be a little oil on the bottom of the threads if there were some on the threads before you tighetned it. But if you clean it off a few times and it keeps coming back, then that could be a problem with the threads or the fitting.
There shouldn't be any oil coming out of the fittings as long as they're tight. For the fitting on the cooler, you'll want to make sure to have a wrench on the cooler itself, and the other on the line fitting, rather then just using a wrench on just the fitting on the line, that could damage the oil cooler. |

Any tips for fixing a leaking fitting other than tightening the crap out of it? Also, what type of threaded connection is on the thermostat? (crush washer? NPT?). |

Yeah, that's why I wanted to avoid tightening anything any more than they already had been. Are you saying use teflon tape on the thermostat fittings? Because teflon tape won't do anything for those JIC fittings (I assume that's what the main fittings are). Thanks!

Right! I forgot about that, been a while since I had mine off. Did you check the sealing surfaces for any debris or imperfections?

If I do get leaks, would it be stupid to drain the system and put a little RTV around the outside edge where contact is made with the JIC fitting? |
