Subaru has stated (repeatedly) that there is no intention of ever putting a turbo engine in the BRZ. That could change of course but it likely won't be for awhile.

So you lose 13-14k for 2 years fun. Well, not bad, that is only 550-650 a month out the window. You can afford it. The biggest item you will loose here is Tax. First purchase, you pId 2300+ into tax. Second purchase, you will likely lose another 3000 in tax....or 5000+ tax alone. Well no big deal. 200-300 a month, that is nothing. |

Though, i still appreciate the people who is willing to pay for the depreciation of the car. If there is no turbo Frs, i would purchase a used one, and save my money |

Just an observation but "Next Year" within the context of an article and post from 2011 means 2012. None of this speculation became reality.

I paid $28.5k out the door for my GTI. After 2 years and 20,000 miles, KBB shows it being worth $19.5k as a trade-in. So that's $9k loss, or roughly 32% of OTD price. And VW's aren't known for their resale value. I'd say 30-32% of OTD price would be a pretty conservative estimate for 2 years in a Scion/Toyota, or about $8-9k on the FR-S. On the tax point, in most states, you get a tax deduction on your trade-in.

The FRS/BRZ isn't some average car like an Accord/Camry. Demand is still very high and trade-in after 1-2 years won't be close to as bad as you think. When there's a 6 month wait for a new BRZ you better believe resale on your car is higher than normal. If a turbo model comes out I'll definitely trade up, and doubt I'll lose much in the process at all. When you trade-in a car here in NC you pay very very little in taxes and registration. And you can reuse your license plate, so no tag fees.

Toyota 86 and 1.6l is contradictory
The name of the car comes from the 86mm bore 86mm stroke which leads to 2l displacement in a 4 cylinder engine. Adding to this the slight dulling of throttle response, lag etc associated with turbos that all go against what a driver's car is meant to be. |
