That said, JDM wheels are stupid cheap in Japan compared to here. Heard a similar story about Works actually, from a Japanese dude.
Yerp. The closer you are to JDMland the better. When I was in Thailand everyone was rocking Volks, Advan, Work, Weds, etc. I mean EVERYONE. Cabs, work trucks, daily drivers, etc. One of the coolest was a plain jane Chevy truck with six lug volks. I stopped taking pics because they were on every car.

Don't give me the Subaru/Toyota crap! that's a completely different story.
no different than anyone buying volk wheels over rotas or something similar. conspicuous consumption is what this entire industry is built on. well, that and premature optimization. it's fine by me, i just don't engage in it.

Rotas are cheap replicas which aren't as strong as the "Real" thing.

You have an issue with wheels breaking? Or an issue justifying conspicuous consumption?

Your post seems to be suggesting that there is no reason to buy real volks, other than the name. I apologize if I misunderstood.

He is implying that unless you are cracking your Rotas then you are wasting your money buying the lighter forged Volks and that you are buying them just to show you have the money to buy Volks.

Or maybe the buyer wants lighter wheels?

But yeah, let's try to come up with reasons to ridicule each other for their buying choices...

we were making the point that yes, people would buy the same thing with a different name, because the name is more valuable to some than the object itself. not ridiculing anyone. different strokes for different folks.

In addtion. Which is a good feeling it self, spending money on some quality parts. Why wear a fancy suit when a cheap one does the same job ?

exactly. some people think of it that way. some people take a more 'lean' approach. i don't deny that knowing your rolling on volks is a cool feeling, but that is the only material advantage. you have to accept that unless the $999 set of wheels doesn't do the job, when you buy volks you are effectively buying $999 worth of wheel and $2k worth of name.

nothing at all wrong with it. i've bought ohlins before for the same reasons. i just try not to, it's hard to resist sometimes lol.
