Uh, no, it's not actually the law.

The reason dealerships have cash purchases fill out a credit application is because cash purchases aren't usually actually CASH MONEY - it's usually a check or money order of some sort (which does need 8300 reporting (not personal checks though), but not a finance app). The application is in case the check bounces or is fake, then they go get a loan for you based on that application. This is typically explicitly stated in the paper work, at least in California. That said, this isn't a 'trick' by the dealership, and makes sense as a rule for them to have. But they need to explain it better (including to the salespeople).

I suspect if you actually went in with a briefcase of $100s you might get a different response to not wanting to fill out an app...

To add on ^
Some people think money orders & cashiers checks can't bounce, that is false. Though it is very unlikely it can happen.

Edit: Wanted to ask, those who purchased out of state, how long did it aprox take for the car to get to you from the dealership? (Heuberger buyers input would be greatly appreciated). My cars arrival isn't till the 13 and I have 0 patience. Especially since I just sold my one and only car today.

Again. If you quickly sign the paperwork I've seen them go as quick as a day or up to a week. It's on three variants, how quickly we can get to paper work, how quickly you can fill out the paperwork, then how quickly shipping company can allocate cars.

The policy is Gunnár Heubergers policy as a customer in the past, in which I wasn't here did some heavy money laundering and stole a persons identity. But also it is to go against the terrorism act, make sure no one is a terrorist. It may not be the general rules Per se, but it's our rule, and we do it for everyone's safety.

Clint, it may be your company's policy, but filling out a financing application is not part of any terrorism act and it does nothing to make sure a person isn't a terrorist. There is no law requiring it whatsoever.

Filling out a financing application also doesn't protect against identity theft - if a person's identity is stolen, they would have the info required for a financing application, and filling out the financing app will ding that persons credit even more.

You seem like a stand up guy, so please don't propagate false claims. It being company policy and protecting the company is a valid reason and that's enough. :-)

Edit: both edmunds (link above) and Forbes (below) list this as a 'dealer scam' BTW. Don't be a part of it. :-)

Poundsand,

I am telling Ft86, what my company has told me, regarding this issue.

This was their explanation, and through translation this is the explanation I offer to my customers.

Straightforward, without he said - she said.

It's Mr. Heuberger's policy and will always enforce this policy, even with its employees and family members.

Side note: Which the Heuberger family (which is in the store everyday),

Our company wants to protect its customers and the integrity and smoothness of a customers satisfaction in purchasing a vehicle. That is all

Clint,

Sounds good- as I said, the policy makes sense in general. I'm just saying', leave out the part about the terrorism act, as it's not true, regardless of what you've been told. :-)

Clint,
Once my car gets in, send out the paper work to me right away. I'll fill out everything immediately and send it back. Work with me and maybe I'll send you that bottle of booze

I understand that the car does not belong to the carwash man! That is why they don't give a shit how your car is gonna turn out to be. As long as they clean your car, it looks good from 5 feet away. Job is done.
I also do not feel like getting car with dents and dings, and I could live up with the swirls if I really have no choices. I'm assuming the pre-wash is highly recommended, so I could inspect my car when it gets here. However, if I really have a choice, I do not feel like getting that kind of swirls.

I'm really getting paranoid after reading this thread

How was your experience when you get your car? Did you notice any swirls? Did you opt out the free car wash?
