Anyone playing with a smaller turbo?
I don't think I've seen anyone running with anything smaller than a GT28R sized turbo. I was curious if anyone is running or plans on running a smaller sized turbo?
My thought is with a smaller turbo that spools faster, people not wanting big power might get a better power curve to play with. Perhaps a GT2560R with 14-18psi? Not an expert but have ran turbos in the past. I'm only looking for about 270-300whp max. The power curves look nice with the existing turbo kits on the market and seem to be pretty responsive.

I'm just curious and tossing out the idea. I would think the torque curve would be more interesting w/ a smaller turbo @ higher boost.

Maybe. It would also be more likely to blow up than a larger turbo that hits peak boost later but makes the same torque number, maybe slower too.

I'm not sure how "small" the AVO turbo is, but it looks pretty close to ideal IMO.

It's too small for me
![]() Their base kit comes with a 50 trim but I don't know about that, I feel like it doesn't have massive room for you to play with if you decide on doing so later on

OP mentions a GT25, you go straight for a T3/T4... I like your style lol

Those turbos have been known to be capable of 400+whp, but by today's standards they're too laggy. You can get the same whp numbers out of a modern ball bearing turbo with a smaller/lighter wheelset that is much more responsive. I ran a 60 trim on my Eclipse 10+ years ago, and back then it wasn't all that impressive. |

I believe the Turbo AVO is using is about as small as it gets. If I'm correct they tested a bunch of turbos to get the optimum performance. sometimes a tiny turbo also means quick boost but nothing up top. |

True they aren't the best turbos but I only mentioned them cause a guy already tested a 60trim and did present nice results. I never worked with a T3/t4 beacuse the fact i havent been in the tuning seen long enough; I'm actually a huge fan boy of the gt(gtx now ) series and are the most turbos I've got to experience ![]()

It's a TD05 18g with the compressor and turbine sizes inverted.
