You misunderstand. Harsh is that it cuts RPM before resuming any sort of engine power, so it feels like you are slowing down. A soft limiter is more forgiving and just holds RPMs.

Mine is completely different though. Mine has only ever "bounced" once, and it was when I was spinning the tires. I run STX class here in Atlantic Canada, I have my shift light set at 7000 and the beeper is on as well. With the windows down and my TRD exhaust I sometimes don't see or hear it, and I run it right to redline. How mine limits itself is just like I let off the throttle and I am just maintaining speed, right at redline. 100% perfectly smooth...

My only power modifications are TRD intake and exhaust.... Mine is a '13 6MT purchased from a dealer.

What I intend on doing sometime is datalogging rpm and throttle position and see if the ECU is pulling out throttle to limit rpm. I've just been so busy that I haven't had a chance. Any input on other test methods are certainly welcome!

I'll try to get a vid of this at AutoX this weekend.

i dont see a reason to hit the rev limiter, Most dyno graph shoes that 6500ish is wear we get max power.

What about the next gear? You have more available power if you shift later because it puts you higher in the power band.

Autocrossing and tracking often require you to hold the limiter. When you hit the limiter mid slalom, you don't shift at that point.

You dont want to shift .5 seconds before a braking zone either.

in autoX it isnt about power. some say shifting gear cost 3 to up up and back down. being able to hold second gear for 1 second longer and deal with the lack of power is often times quicker than going to 3rd

I didn't say it was all about power. I simply made a statement.

I can agree with harshness. I drive AT and I can bounce limiter then shift on 1-2 shift and chirp tires. Only very few times though. It scares me....

rev limiter is definitely harsh, like jarringly harsh. Luckily yes the best shift point is after 6500 rpm, after that you're just noising yourself to redline.

Clearly you don't autocross, or if you do you're not very aggressive about it. Scion Racing pays me $500 per win as per their contingency program. A lot of the time I win my class by less than half a second. Which is where THIS applies.

I don't think I misunderstood, my car acts like it has a soft limiter. It is like I hit the cruise control button at redline. No jarring, no slowing whatsoever. I don't lose power, it is just like it backs off. I've experienced ignition cut in many vehicles before, that is the bounce I am talking about because the engine cuts spark (in most engines) at a set rpm and you lose ALL power.

Bump, anyone have any more info? I've done a bit more research and it definitely seems like i have a soft limiter. I always have trac disabled while doing my runs.
