I am waiting. Not necessarily for the STI model, but some sort of Spec B/STI/more powerful model. I really want a sports car to replace the Acura RSX-S I got rid of (driving an Xterra right now), and I really want it to be more powerful than said RSX-S -- as much as I loved the it, the RSX really could have used more power. I had my eye on a used Cayman before all of the details about the BRZ came out. It will be a year or two before I'm in the financial position to pick one up (will be a 3rd car for me and the wife), so might as well get everything I want. Now, I check this board a few times a week looking for nibbles on the STI model.
Just gotta convince said wife why we need said sports car... |

Not I. The STI may never make production anyway. Snooze you lose, the people who wait for a car that's probably never coming will be pissed when they miss their chance to buy this beauty.

Unless you're suggesting that they increase the displacement or add forced induction, you're not going to get that kind of peak hp and torque from an NA 2.0-liter.

I'm waiting for an STi. Hopefully it will be lighter with no radio or AC option. And no more ice mode braking.

I am interested and "waiting" but I am driving a BRZ limited now. One must know after the STI there will be another 20xx model with ??? coming.... Auto maker always have a newer model next year with some new stuff... life is short, buy it now.

The whole point of this car was to be affordable and fun. I doubt that subaru wants to cannibalize sales of the WRX STI. I can see it going one of three directions:
1. They will create a sport package that adds roughly $2,000 worth of kit and call it a day. No engine mods. Maybe suspension but mostly cosmetic and aero. Maximum price of $30,000 MSRP. or 2. They will sell STI and SPT parts and try to create a mod culture and embrace that it is better at turning than going in a straight line. Which they already do. or 3. Now that they've seen that they can sell a RWD car. They will move the STI upmarket and slide the BRZ STI in its price point. (This much less likely than the others.) The WRX STI already boarders on too expensive for what it is. This is uncharted territory for them honestly. They designed it to be an entry level sports car. So an entry level sports car it will stay. |

Or the additional performance enhancements could be available on a "Premium" trim model. So instead of the cost being heaped on a $28k car, its being heaped on a $26k car. There's no rule that says you can only give more horsepower to the top trim model.

I'm not holding my breath. Instead I'm building my own STI BRZ. It will wear STI badges, have 250-275 whp, considerably less oversteer and turn heads with it's subtle look. It probably won't be done for a few months but the plans are coming along nicely.

I am not convinced a BRZ STI would kill off WRX STI sales or vice versa. And I would not see many BRZ STI's being produced, so the demand would be high I suspect. |
