It works to do what? Reduce underhood heat? Why not just remove the rubber strip at the top of the firewall..............

Living in Japan, we used to do this back in high school with our cars. Just added washers. Didn't think they still did that. Brings back memories...

Interesting video. There seem to be a fair amount of people that track their car while logging coolant and oil temps who have not had heat issues. Seems like these heat issues are more prevalent on a dyno. I think if you need hood spacers what you really need is an oil cooler and a larger radiator.

I've been testing now for a while well naturally aspirated and now supercharged the big thing is idle temps. For example if you are running hard on the street get stuck idling if your oil temps are high they continue to climb and never recover. Coolant temperatures also take a hit under idling. the coolant and condenser fan do not cycle on until 212 degrees which in cases of hard running and then Idle you can and will see temps hitting 217 to 220. Combine that with 230 to 250 degree oil temps and you start to see performance degradation.
Supercharging and turbocharging forget it. I would not even risk running the car without and bigger radiator and oil cooler. i had three full throttle runs in 3rd gear on the street data logging and my oil temps were alread at 240. Coolant was 205 with larger radiator. And yes there is no place for heat to escape on the frs/brz. Bottom is sealed up, hood has weather stripping on the front and rear of hood and the front grill opening is quote small. I will have plenty more details in my supercharging video.

Lets put it like this , some one who tracks there car in a hot state but doesn't have 1000+ to do oil cooler and radiator can simply go to a hardware store buy some washer and extended bolts and bam -10 to -15 degrees Last edited by Jhon19lopez; 05-27-2013 at 07:50 AM. |
